Have X-Men and NBA Jam. Just bought Mortal Kombat/Midway Legacy for $200.

Once I get The Simpsons and Terminator 2, I think I'm out.

Unless they do Area 51 and Star Wars Trilogy. Those would get me buying again.

I hate the art on the side. I shoved it in the corner next to a slot machine so I don't have to see so much of it

Fair. Really wish A1Up weren't such lazy pieces of shit too and actually design their risers to match the entirety of the cab. There is no reason they shouldn't be a continuation.

Nope. I do have a mvsx cab modded to play every neo geo and most cps1 and 2 games along with genesis games and other random shit. I can play mvc on it along with around 400 other games

Way better value and around the same cost as a 1up cab. Actually better build quality too.

I'm not going to bother getting one. They are ridiculously expensive here, starting at 450 sometimes going all the way up to 800 CAD. For that price, I'm better off saving a few extra dollars and getting a repurposed arcade cabinet. I'm hoping when I start working to save for a Megacade, which cost roughly 6k before shipping.

Because if it was sold with the cabinet your going to pay an additional 100ish dollars. Those things are way overpriced for what they are. Without the riser you just have to sit down in a chair to play.

If I were to get an Arcade1up, I'd just build a riser. Far cheaper.

Your response seems to be based on how it's sold and I think my question is more based on how it's made to be sold

Let's set aside the obvious that they are very likely selling the riser as a separate piece to increase profitability, as I'm sure the riser is a great add-on piece that gives them a high margin

What I'm asking is- is it a situation where it is very blatantly that you need to get a riser or build a riser separately? Or is there an actual use for it being at the height they sell the cabinet at? You mentioned a chair, but are people actually using a chair to play this and not buying/building a riser?

Those of us who remember actual arcades know about standing up at an arcade machine, but I don't know enough about this to know what the arcade cabinet heights are. Are the Arcade machines sold at the height for a child to stand at (that we would have stood at in our youth), and the risers are for us old fucks to stand at/sit at in a bar stool?

Or is it a case where, it doesn't make sense at all to use it at the base height, and everyone needs to buy/build a riser to actually play it (kid or adult), and they are just capitalizing on add-on sales?

Yes, those cabinets are meant to be played while sitting down. Generally speaking they are meant to be a scaled down version of a traditional cabinet, ergo why they are also shorter off the ground. I'm also an "old fuck", at 36, I remember going to arcades.

But typically Arcade1up machines are meant to make a profit without building for quality. All the parts inside are cheap. But they still sell for what they consider a reasonable price, and because there really isn't much competition they can get away with it. If you found a scrapped cabinet from a real arcade it could cost you 3-4 hundred just for the bare bones. Upwards of 7-8 hundred CAD for a working cabinet.

Don't even get me started on pinball machines. They make arcade machines look like a steal in comparison.

I would love to get my hands on a scrapped cabinet with just the screen, toss in a raspberry pi or old pc and use that.

So who is the target audience for an Arcade1Up cabinet without a riser where you sit in a chair? Do us old fucks like that kinda thing or is it for kids?

I don't have a house that would fit an arcade cabinet but if I did, I'd love to have an OG TMNT II legit arcade cabinet in my home. But having not seen it in person, I have no idea if I'd even be at the right height standing and playing it, or if I would be too tall.

Essentially they are just capitalizing on nostalgia. People who want to play the old school arcade games, but can't afford a full cabinet. They also have small apartments/houses in mind. Remember that full size cabinets are difficult to bring through a single door, and around tight spaces. If you have the space for it, try and find a full size cabinet. Even one that isn't an OG TMNT II cabinet. You can always use an old pc or a raspberry pi to program it to play that game and more. Plus you can pay someone to make custom artwork down the line.

It was originally believed that they had to sell it at a certain height without a riser to be able to sell it as a specific type of good. Can't remember which category of good, but think it allowed them to avoid higher licensing fees/shipping charges etc.

Which would make sense because this company does not hide the fact that it's all about money to them. Hell, their online "sale" yesterday was promoting that it was giving back to Red Cross! ...except it was 5% donation of sales which is the lowest you can give back to trigger the appropriate number to be able to write off. They had a bunch of goods they couldn't sell due to the shipping crisis and this is a way for them to recoup those losses with the write off.

The only way I'd get a 1up cab is for a 4 player set up but I don't know that many people that would ever partake in that

Anybody who wants a 3/4th cab I recommend getting a mvsx. It's pre-assembled, easy to mod, slightly better build quality.

I use my mvsx quite frequently as a quick stress release. I didn't use it so much before I modded it admittedly, but now with over 400 games filled with classics like bubble bobble, Simpsons arcade game, crossed swords, punisher and d&d beat em ups there is always fun around the corner right across my bed in my bedroom!

That's the video that got me interested in the Megacades. But they are extremely expensive. 6K USD prior to taxes, so in Canada that's closer to 8K prior to taxes and shipping. Essentially its about 11k after everything is said and done, as I've dealt with shipping and weight costs. My old bean bag which weighed 50 lbs was damn near 200 dollars in shipping.

Cheaply made knockoffs sold for high prices. I saw one the other day that was 700 CAD new. When one of the Wal-Mart stores was going out of business, they were going for 140 CAD. That's how overpriced they are. Wal-Mart could sell them for 140 CAD and still make a profit off of them.

Corners cut to save a few bucks. Making changes or additions or design choices with real no rhyme or reason. Releasing stuff over and over again that's essentially the same thing.

Playmates does this with their 90s TMNT reissues. Poorer quality and missing paint for no reason, but charging $15 a piece.
