The only scene I remember from Avatar wasn't a scene in Avatar, it was a fan-written speech someone gave the bad guy who talked about how humans were better than the aliens because they traveled the stars while the aliens stayed around and fucked a tree.

I've been seeing this go around. I may not care much about the sequel and I haven't seen the original in probably 15 years but I still remember a lot of it. People seem to have bad memories.

I do think James Cameron is crazy if he thinks the sequels will reach anywhere near 3 billion in revenue like the first one did.

The context here between the two examples is way different. The MCU has a solid foundation that has been consistently built over time.

Avatar was released in theaters in 2009(damn thought it was longer ago than that) but nothing since then, it's impact has largely vanished, so yeah I agree with this:

It does seem very arrogant for James Cameron to think that people would be excited to hear about 3 fricken sequels so long after the fact.

It's not exactly a deal breaker, but honestly how excited are you about the sequel? I'll watch it probably, may or not be in theaters but I'm not really looking forward to it like I do for more recent big movies, such as Thor Love & Thunder this weekend.
