Police do nothing useful. They pull people over and ticket them for speeding - to siphon money from the middle-class and poor to the city - but when they are truly needed like in Uvalde they sit on their ass then lie and hide the truth.

Some of us don't like to just willingly cede our rights.

This is what happens when you DONT know your rights. The Supreme Court has already ruled that during a traffic stop you HAVE TO provide your license. They have also already ruled that cops do NOT need to explain why they pulled you over. The only time they need to explain reasonable suspicion or probable cause is in court to a judge. Knowing what you are required to do when interacting with cops is just as important as knowing your rights.

Now that being said the cops could have just said go ahead and google these things on your phone then I'm going to ask you to comply 1 more time. That would have de-escalated the situation rather than just resorting to physical force all the time.

Edit: I would like to clarify because some people think I'm siding with the cop. I think the cop is an asshole who shouldn't have done what he did. But I also do not believe it's victim blaming to say the driver of the vehicle should educate himself on what he is required to do by law not just his rights. It is important to know both so for instance you don't get ripped out of your car by some asshole cop on a power trip.

Because the police harass people of color all the time with no good reason and this is literally what was going on.

To be treated like a human being and preserve your dignity. I wouldn't go for some random adult pulling me over and asking shit - why should I go for a cop, who is just a random adult?

I dont believe in police pulling people over for no reason and not explaining why.

And one example they gave was how differently it was handled when a white guy wasn't cooperative with the police. They let him go without incident.

So why do you try to paint this as being reasonable?

1. Cop waaaay overreacted, should have just told the dude why he pulled him over, and shouldn't have smashed his window for a minor traffic offense

2. When he said "your license is probably suspended" I doubt he was just speculating. I'm guessing he ran the vehicle's plate, and its was registered to someone whose license was suspended and matched the general description of the driver. Hence why he needed an ID to confirm if the driver was the registered owner and was in fact suspended.

Cop could have easily just said this tag came back suspended. Thats what going on. That simple.

License and tags are 2 different things
