When it came to the 4th of July yesterday, I saw people saying, "Sorry, I dont celebrate children having their bodies blown apart" and making people feel bad who did anything for the 4th.

I didnt celebrate nothing

I'll be honest, I never ruminate on the importance of a national holiday.

I celebrated my brother's birthday yesterday.
But it's hard to celebrate independence and freedom when half the country just had their basic human rights taken away.

The holiday itself celebrates a nation rooted in white supremacy and genocide.

I'm not about to try to make anyone feel bad but I'm definitely judging certain hypocrites I know personally, and we saw yesterday that even the poor people who were doing what they were "supposed" to be doing ended up seeing firsthand how bad it is.

America did not deserve to celebrate yesterday, but I didn't think many people would avoid it either.

I got invited to a party last night, but just stayed home with my girlfriend instead.

My super conservative mother, however, did take the opportunity to send me some over-the-top "celebratory" texts, which she never usually does for the Fourth of July. Totally malicious. Done purely to rub salt in the wound after Roe v Wade got overturned, since she considers that a victory. Didn't exactly put me in the mood to watch fireworks.

It's easy not to celebrate when you don't have anyone to celebrate with lol

I was hanging outside yesterday. From what I could tell most families were out by their pool.

Yeah, that would've been me, if I was actually going outside my home and talking to anyone

I just use it as an excuse to eat BBQ, swim at the pool, and get a day off from work. I dont really celebrate anything.

for most i think its just a day off work to blow stuff up and thats enough to get excited about.

TC has a very "terminally online" stance. Real people aren't going to refuse to take off work, refuse to have fun, refuse to hang out with their friends and familes just because they're upset about current events. If anything, that'll make them want the escape more.

I don't think of such negative things during the holidays and just enjoy myself and time with my family as much as well.

This ywat I brought fireworks for my nephews and they had a blast. Pity everyone's holiday wasn't so great.

Nah, if people want to sit at home and be miserable and seethe over every single thing wrong with the world then thats on them.

Yesterday was an awesome day of hanging with the homies up at the lake, listening to some music, eating some burgers, and drinking some beer. You aint gonna hear me complain about it.

Hell yeah, I celebrated with my family, had a big ole BBQ and fireworks, love this country for all its given me.

It's celebrating whatever the people doing the celebrations want to celebrate. Maybe it's about the professed ideals about the USA (whether or not they live up to them). Maybe it's just celebrating life with your family/friends, or just food. Maybe it's about the current actual state of the USA. Maybe it's celebrating not having to work.

IDK, I don't really care about which/what. It's just a day where people do some celebrations, it doesn't mean anything either way. People celebrating or not makes no material difference. I didn't do anything, but that was just because I never do anything on any day.

If I refuse to eat a burger or look at fireworks, will it reinstate Roe v Wade? Will it prevent Texas from persecuting trans youth? Will it stop gun violence from citizens or police?

If boycotting the 4th of July isn't going to change any of those things, then I might as well enjoy my day off.
