Iirc, it's basically we just don't drink that much tea so coffee makers are the more common counter top appliance.

Also because microwaves exist *shrug*

I have apparently found the reason

US electricity to homes is 110V. In Australia and Europe it's 230V. So electric Kettles basically take so much longer to actually boil that the gas stove might actually be faster.

I guess. I haven't ever lived with a gas stove since moving out of home. All my stoves have been electric.

Electric kettles are still faster than stove top kettles even on our lower voltage power

It's really just a lack of need for them. Coffee makers are common place (tho I wish people wouldn't settle for them and actually made coffee a better way more frequently)

gotcha. at the end of the day we just throw water in the microwave for stuff like that. normally doesn't take any more than a couple of minutes if you're starting out with already hot water so just no real need for it.

Next question, are the majority of cooktops/stoves gas in America? As I said in another post I've never had a gas cooktop. In fact I have never had any gas connection to my places, it's only been electric. Electric stovetops, heating, etc.

I'm American, I use my electric kettle for the French Press. Also it's great for other things like quickly heating water for noodles. Or boiling water to sterilize something etc.

Natural gas is ubiquitous is some parts of the country. As for gas vs. electric. I believe electric stoves are cheaper, but gas is more accurate, so it is preferred by people that like to do a lot of cooking.

It varies. Probably about 50% give or take just from my experience. I personally have only an electric one and my hater is also electric. But my parents have gas stoves and from the other places I've lived and other people I've visited I'd say it's been about half have gas and half only have electric.

I personally prefer just going with electric, it gets the job done and I don't need another utility to pay.

Pour over scales to larger amounts pretty well

Aeropress is great for one to three or so cups at a time

Cold brew is great for making a large amount at once
