By the end of this season, Walt truly saw Jesse as a son and took responsibility for him. On the other hand he is growing to really resent "Flynn", it's clear that the contradiction between Flynn doing so much to try to help while not wanting to be called Walter is really fucking with Walter's head. And the charity infuriates him, taking away his agency in his mind. And Skyler, at this point he's been hiding from her so long.

I'm curious how things will unfold next season. Will Walt ever be able to get Skyler back or is this the end of Walt pulling off a double life?

I always think the show did a great job giving him more character while keeping him consistent

I dont remember much the very first episode, but I think I've always liked him overall. Post-Tuco I noticed he was a really good actor.

Did Breaking Bad air with subtitles for the Spanish? They're not baked in on what I'm watching, I have to enable the English subtitle track.

I know a bit of Spanish and the scenes are clear enough to know what's going on for me, but I'm curious how it aired. A lot of Americans have an "I don't speak me no espanol" attitude.

No, that was an intentional decision from the director/writers

But I think they added them for the DVDs and such

Can't speak for the poster, but I remember when I watched I was under the impression that Walt was an unstoppable badass. While in the actual show he's a lot more disorganized and clumsy who puts on the "badass" persona as an act to intimidate people.

Yeah, I feel like people thinking Walt was some sort of "badass" missed the point. The entire show he's trying to put on an act that he's some genius drug lord, but in reality he's just a washed up scientist with an ego. Gus is who he wishes he was.

His name is Saul Goodman, yet he is somewhat bad. Curious!

I feel like you're underselling Walt

He's intelligent and on point in a crisis. Yes he's physically weak and a coward but that makes what he does arguably more badass than people like Gus or Tuco were what they do comes naturally and they have no fear.

Walt is pretty much a Magikarp that got to level 100 and now is kicking everyone's ass.
Gus is like a Mewtwo who is level 37 and is kicking ass just because he was born the best.

You can make a case for both being and not being badass. It's not really as simple as "actually he isn't because he's just a washed up egotist"

It's UR he just wants to argue.

I think you're giving him too much credit. Many of Walt's successes come from sheer luck, something that's acknowledged in-universe. It's more like a level 37 Vanillite that gets a brightpowder dodge and then an ice beam freeze.

No one is that lucky.

I dunno where TC is at so I don't want to spoil stuff but you can run down a long list of Breaking Bad events where Walt's back was to the wall and in a crisis he handled it.

I've very intentionally avoided talking about anything from S4/5 and even pointed out people not to spoil stuff.

I feel like the magicarp/Mewtwo analogy is completely backwards. Gus earned everything, brick by brick, with his own two hands. Walt had all the potential in the world to be something great and threw it away because of pride. He's reckless, impulsive, and egotistical. Everything good he spoils and ruins.
