I made a topic about joining the gym and getting in shape a few weeks back, and got some solid advice. I decided to go with a personal trainer at least to start with, as I know nothing about lifting or proper form/diet or anything like that. I know I can look it all up online but having in-person personalized guidance could help.

The closest gym to me is an LA Fitness that's like within walking distance. Anyone ever use them for personal trainers? Seems like there are a lot of people online complaining about the contract being expensive and not being able to get out of it etc. I can afford it but I don't want to be hit with some shady fine print or something.

I wouldnt worry about trainers bro. I used LA in Illinois. You can look it up online now. Just make it easy. Focus on the big three, bench, squat, deadlift. And center your days around it.

Diet, drink a protein shake after workout and consume a shit ton of chicken and rice

or just go ham and learn west side barbell

Dont get a personal trainer. The training session lasts 30 minutes to 1 hour and its basically work you until youre tired out. You can find diet/proper nutrition and form videos online. If you need in-person guidance, make friends with the regulars at the gym. Theyll be more than happy to teach and lift with you.

You can get out of the personal training program at LA Fitness but its often a huge pain in the ass to do so. Even canceling my membership at LA Fitness a few months ago was a hassle.

I've been going to LA since 2007 and even then they were way overpriced. Honestly if money isn't the issue they're fine they give you a basic understanding of how to achieve your fitness goals with good form.

i utilized a trainer from LA Fitness for about six months

its about $50.00 for 30 minutes.

its essentially a lot of cardio based lifting. Lift until you get tired and a lot of drop sets.

If you are a beginner, there is benefit to it as you can learn new exercises, get good form and have a basic idea on how to formulate a work out plan. Otherwise, there are much more cost efficient methods out there
