Republicans absolutely fucking hate LGBT people and same-sex marriage perhaps even moreso than abortion. That's just beyond obvious.

Then there's rulings on segregation and interracial marriage, among other stuff the right hates...

Don't forget Lawrence v. Texas and Griswold v. Connecticut (ban on sodomy laws and guaranteed contraceptive access, respectively). They don't believe in bodily autonomy.

And when you launder attacks against trans people, you are aiding and abetting that logic.

Yeah...gay marriage seems likely to be over turned now, specially with all this renewed anti gay sentiment lately. All this grooming talk is working its way into the most ignorant people.

Gotta emphasize that last point. It's never "just" one issue. If you're okay with sports bans, you're helping them push through their agenda to ban us and all LGBT people and ultimately anyone who isn't a cis hetero white male with money.

To be fair, both sides of the court have said themselves that this is NOT the end.

Im optimistic about gay marriage being safe. There are gay republicans at this point. You cant use murder as an argument against gay marriage. Most people know someone that is openly gay at this point.

Trans people probably dont do well though. I do believe that the supreme court did rule in favor of trans people in the past few years. With a few republicans voting in favor of it, but I think the discourse has worsened.

As someone who has always considered myself prolife, I don't think banning abortions is the way to go. We need better safety nets to make raising children more affordable, we need adoption to be a plausible alternative financially, health care needs to be free to all. Contraceptives need to be readily available and covered by insurance for all. Sex education needs to be expanded.

That's how you reduce the number of abortions.

Check what a simple google of republican anti gay brings. Look at the news from 2022. Also wasnt there a recent republican convention denouncing a gay republican group stating there was no place for them in the gop?

I feel safe that interracial marriage is safe, because so many black male Republicans marry white women.

In 2020 (so 1 less conservative judge - they could have overturned it then) the court defended the right to not be discriminated based on your sexuality, so it'll have to be a really obvious "lol yeah we're total hypocrites **** the gays" and I don't think they're that stupid.

They've got a majority to do whatever crazy BS they want and lifetime appointments to do it forever. They have to wait a bit so republicans can pretend this is the legitimate rule of law and not bipartisan hacks screwing the rules.

There hasn't been much talk about it but I think the first amendment itself is in trouble. Even something like how Trump hated SNL making fun of him. If he gets back in power, I could see the Supreme Court siding with him that their style of comedy is not protected.

This is almost definitely the case. The Republican definition of free speech has largely become "I should be able to be as offensive as I want and you can't be upset about it"

Trump already announced he wants to open up Libel laws so he can sue people who say something bad about him (which he was personally doing for years beforehand) and repeatedly threatened to revoke section 230 (which will basically end the internet as we know it), if he gets back in and realizes he has basically won? We might not even have an election in 2028.

But Id like to be optimistic. Its just such a dumb fight and such a dumb thing to take a stand on. It feels like such a useless thing to take a stand on and its a gigantic step backwards.

I was literally listening to an anti gay sermon at my parents' chruch last Sunday. Plenty of supporting Amens, and plenty of people willing to take a stand against LGBT out there.
