I can't help but feel like it suffers from the same issues that Crash 3 had. Too much additions to the core gameplay that just aren't as fun. The side characters aren't nearly as fun as Spyro and the skateboarding is a bit meh.
Not of offensive as the Crash 3 vehicle levels though.

I'm gonna replay it soon. The ps1 version tho.

The skateboarding is awesome though. The first park is boring but I spent hours playing the second one as a kid.

P sure the first game was the best at the core gameplay though.

You playing PS1 or Reignited? If you've played both, which do you prefer between PS1 and Reignited? When it comes to graphics I prefer Reignited, but the soundtrack and gameplay in the PS1 version just feel more right to me, speaking as someone who played Reignited first. Actually I kind of also prefer PS1 when it comes to graphics if only because it's easier to spot gems in the PS1 version. I swear it shouldn't be as hard to find a red gem on green grass as it is in the Reignited version. And Bentley's whack a mole minigame really sucks in Reignited, fuck that minigame so hard lol.

Crash 3 is the only one of the third entries that I actually like best, but that's because I actually liked that they made the game easier with running and a literal bazooka so I understand if I'm in the minority on this. It's the only game where I attempted to get the colored gems and some of the clear gems.

But I also really love the setting, the time travel to medieval setting was great, and I basically love the ancient egypt and ancient arabia levels.

I do agree about Spyro 3 though. I liked it less than 2 and even 1 was good. Only played the remakes though

Edit: But I do agree on any and all criticism directed at mini game levels, racing levels, bike levels, and airplane/flying levels. Just ugh. I know the meme is that gamers hate water levels, but flying levels are way worse to me.

Playing the OG on ps1. I'm currently hooked on retroachievements lol. PS1 graphics also make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Will defs play Reignited at some point though.

The vehicles in Crash 3 were honesty fine and played great. There's just way too many of them. There didn't need to be 4 motorbike and 4 jet ski levels. There needed to be at least one more platforming themed level. Like aztec ruins or Victorian era london or something

Got a quick tip for when you get to 2 and 3 Reignited, switch to Classic (PS1 style) controls whenever you're about to swim. Spyro makes really loose turns in Reignited, especially while swimming, but turning the camera while you swim lets him make tighter turns, which is made easier to do with Classic controls. Basically I really hate swimming with Reignited style controls.

I've played both trilogies on PS1 and their respective remakes. I love them all though I can understand why some people don't like the mitigates and vehicle stuff.

I loved the vehicles in Crash 3 especially the motorcycle ones. The planes I do agree were kinda lame, and that final secret level where you had to spin through the rings was annoying, but the jet skis, motorcycles, tigers, and dinos were all fun to me. Didn't much care for the underwater ones though. I did manage to platinum every level and have a good time doing it.

As far as Spyro 3, idk I liked the side characters, especially Sheila and the Sparx levels I thought were cool too. To each their own. Spyro 1's levels were too easy and straightforward with the exception of Tree Tops, and the bosses were far too much of a joke. Spyro 2 and 3 really stepped up their boss game.

And yeah, I didn't like Spyro 3 much either. The character swaps were really jarring. I'm not playing Spyro to play a bad third-person shooter.

Was playing the reignited trilogy and collecting everything in all of them and had a gem bug out in one of the last stages of 3 and nothing would fix it.

Weirdly Spyro 3 is my favourite and Crash 3 is my least favourite of the PS1 trilogies.

Now y'all are making me feel weird for liking Tree Tops. Felt so good to finally master that stage.

I like Tree Tops, it was about the only real challenge in the game to figure out. That and Haunted Towers. Funnily enough both of what made them hard to 100% was because of figuring out the right supercharge route lol

usually I agree about sequels that tend to saturate the core gameplay too much with side stuff, but Spyro 3 really really gets the balance right imo. its one of the rare games I cant imagine changing a thing about

It's cuz you didn't play it as a kid. Spyro was literally the first game that I owned and beat and I never would have managed Tree Tops if I didn't have the strategy guide to look up the right routes lol.

I was a grown man who played the remake and even with the guide, that shit was nearly impossible. Fuck Tree Tops.

Fair enough lol. I do vaguely remember playing Spyro 1 as a kid, but I wouldn't have been old enough to actually care about beating games at the time so I can't imagine I ever got far in it.
