For some reason Steam bundles the privacy options for game status and wishlist into the same option.

Edit: Also due to something stupid I am doing something stupid with my steam name which means if you search for it, you probably won't find it

Hidden as in not mainstream I suppose? Would PC exclusive fit into that?

I'm going to check out those games you listed. I have only heard of Recettear and thought it was a puzzle or item management sim and am seeing it's a full on RPG so I'll probably get that now, thank you lol.

It's similar to the atelier games, except instead of deliverables you're trying to make money to pay off a debt. It's also cute as fuck.

I guess? The problem is that there are a lot of things that technically aren't mainstream but people who are into gaming communities have heard of them as if they were mainstream. Owlboy is a good example of this as it's really hard to have been around a gaming forum when it came out and not having heard of it, yet it's actually an extremely unheard of title outside of the forums in question.

--Zero- posted...

I tried to look up the atelier games on steam and was overwhelmed with a long list of titles.
There was a topic that has purged where I went over them, but in a general sense the games are put into trilogies and the best way to go about it is to get into the series as early as you want to and start from there (the trilogies are basically completely self contained outside of the concept of the "alchemists are basically superheroes" that exists across the board). My recommendation would be to get the bundle for the Dusk Trilogy (Ayesha, Escha & Logy, and Shallie), Mysterious Trilogy (Sophie, Firis, and Lydie & Suelle), or Secret duology (Ryza 1 & 2). The Dusk Trilogy is the oldest and thus has a massive lack in QoL that exists in later titles (and also has notable time limits as a gameplay mechanic, which is a turn off for some) but generally is regarded as having the best writing, the Mysterious trilogy has the most "complex" alchemy in the form of Alchemy Tetris for crafting and is very much a love it or hate it sort of affair (I'm on the "it's really good" camp), and the Secret duology has massive QoL improvements and the overall best game feel to it. If you are fine with some jank + time limits go with Dusk, if you want just a bit of jank + no (real) time limits go with Mysterious, and if you want to just guaranteed like the game go with Ryza.

Also:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/7/2/5/AAYBCtAADXwN.jpg

Anyways, this list will be a bit biased by my perception of what exactly is "hidden" (I tend to find more action-y games to be anything but niche) but here are some other things you might look into: Hero's Hour, Patrick's Parabox, The Last Remnant (the PC version is a very different game than the console version), Aviary Attorney, Baba Is You, Battle Chef Brigade, Deep Sky Derelicts, Fell Seal, Gamedec, Gato Roboto, Heaven's Vault, LISA, Noita, Offworld Trading Company (if you have friends to play with), Puzzle Agent, The Sexy Brutale, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments (and if you really liked that one, Devil's Daughter is only slightly worse), and Potion Craft.

Those are (mostly) in alphabetic order with a couple of them out of it not because of them being recommended over the others so much as being in a different category in Steam. Generally speaking I feel like all of them did an excellent job in whatever genre they were going for (with ones that are in genres that have consistent AAA/big name alternatives, such as The Last Remnant and Deep Sky Derelicts, having actual reasons why they didn't get big but are still much better than their relatively unheard of status would lead on).

Some semi-hidden gem recommendations:

Wilmot's Warehouse is a game that really hooked me good.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/839870/Wilmots_Warehouse/
$7.49

It's a simple game all about organizing boxes and filling customer orders in time. I'd sort of compare it to Paper's Please in terms of just you doing a job and it getting more and more stressful.

Return of the Obra Dinn is a game I fucking loved.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/653530/Return_of_the_Obra_Dinn/
$13.99

It's a weird concept all about just piecing together what happened on an old ship with a mysterious history. There's no real linear path and very little hand holding. You just explore the ship and start putting names to faces. The goal is to figure out who everyone on the ship was, what their position was and if/how they died.

Hypnospace Outlaw is another unique type of game if you're seeing a pattern in my list.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/844590/Hypnospace_Outlaw/
$9.99

You play as a moderator overseeing a very old school version of the internet. It starts out finding copyright infractions and people flaming, but there's a bigger story that comes out the further in you get. It can hit pretty hard if you have any nostalgia for 90s internet. They really nail certain parts.

Pyre is a Supergiant game I never see get enough love.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/462770/Pyre/
$4.99

It's a cross between a visual novel and a sports game like basketball or football, but with super powers. Real good story and a great soundtrack. It's the game that came before Hades, which I also couldn't recommend enough and you can see parts of it in there. But this is all about gathering members for your team, playing matches and winning the season. There's a pretty big turn as far as the progression goes, but it's better not knowing ahead of time.

Adios is possibly my favorite "walking simulator".
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1271400/Adios/
$13.49

A great game. Very short. Somewhat hard to recommend at the price, but I do think it can be worth it if the story hits you hard enough. You play as an old man who owns a farm that is paid to dispose of bodies for the local mob and you're calling it quits. The majority of the game is spending the day talking to a hitman you've been working with, doing chores around the farm while you discuss if you want to quit or not. If that premise sounds interesting enough to get you hooked and you don't mind the price for roughly 2 hours of a game, I highly recommend giving Adios a go.

Stories Untold is basically a horror game anthology.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/558420/Stories_Untold/
$1.99

Another weird one hard to explain. Each "episode" acts as its own style of game. The first being a play on classic text adventure games. Each episode offers something completely new and the less said the better I think. I think this is a must try if you have any sort of love for classic types of horror. It's not a jump scare game and is more about building tension and dread. If you have any sort of love for old horror anthologies it's 2 bucks! Buy it!

Her Story is my favorite FMV game where you piece together a mystery.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/368370/Her_Story/
$2.49

Love this game. The entire game is you searching through a police database and watching recordings of interrogations. You are given nothing to go on and there is no way to browse. All you can do is search for words that appear in the videos. You watch the results and slowly try to figure out what the hell is going on. Who is this woman? What is the crime that happened? Who is the victim? What the hell is going on? I actually recommend playing this with a pen and paper next to you so you can take notes on keywords to search for. Names, places, dates, events. Each little drip of info can lead to uncovering some major plot points. For that price I really think everyone should just give it a chance and see if you enjoy it. There's another game that came out called Telling Lies which isn't connected in any way to this one, but the gameplay is similar and I highly recommend that as well (though also suggest you add a mod that allows you an easier way to play recordings from the start). The creator's next game, Immortality comes out in a month and I'm pretty psyched to play it. But so far I think Her Story is the gold standard.

So not really very obscure games no one's ever heard of by any means, but they might have flown under someone's radar here and I think they're worth checking out. I think they're all different enough from most of the games out there and it can be great to experience something new.

Other games I absolutely love and always highly recommend: Disco Elysium, Hades, The Stanley Parable.

You don't have to make any quantifications. Your list has Obra Dinn so it's already 10/10. B)

I added this one to my wish list to keep an eye on. Thanks for the explanation of those games. That was a big help for me.

I added Patrick's Parabox, Aviary Attorney, Gamedec, and Heaven's Vault to my wish list too.

I bought Gato Roboto, Puzzle Agent, and Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments.

I forgot to mention I'm not big into rogue lites or puzzle games either, but some of those look really good!

Obra Dinn is on my wish list now. I already own Hypnospace Outlaw on Xbox. I own Stories Untold, Disco Elysium, Hades, and the Stanley Parable too. Waiting on a discount on the new Stanley Parable game also.

I did purchase Her Story and Adios though. Thanks for the recs!
