And nobody has posted any compelling reasons why thats so.

And you still havent posted a good reason why a negligent parent is worse

Manslaughter =/= murder.

This could be argued to be the former but not the latter.

Also the former typically carries lower sentences.

That is literally the conclusion of the expert on the subject, a renowned neuropsychologist.

Forgetting a child is not a negligence problem but a memory problem, says David Diamond, PhD, a professor of psychology at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
The most common response is that only bad or negligent parents forget kids in cars, Diamond says. Its a matter of circumstances. It can happen to everyone.

And when you forget a child you become neglectful. So, again, negligence.

As shitty as these stories are there is a difference between parents who are consistently negligent and parents who make one negligent mistake that costs them everything.

It's easy to read an article and demonize someone you don't know.

Im not arguing neglect is murder. Im arguing neglect should be punished the same as murder. The child didnt suffer any less just because it might not have been intentional. What other suffering or child abuse did they suffer up until that point due to the parents neglect? Youre having a hard time selling the idea that neglect isnt as bad as youre saying.

I could imagine forgetting the kid in the car for a minute or two and then going back for them, but how could you not notice for hours that they werent around?

Unfortunately this happens every summer in the southwestern states. One tip for the scatterbrained parents out there is to leave your phone or purse or something in the back seat so that youll notice your kid while getting it.
A phone or purse, I get. But how the fuck do you forget your child in the back seat. This is beyond negligence.

Even worse than leaving pet pitbulls unleashed.

Did the 8 year old not say something?

I'll never understand it. Every year the same shit. I could understand not immediately noticing, people make mistakes, but hours after the fact.

Well, to me the biggest question is how the fuck does she not recognize she hasn't had contact with the 5 year old for that long. That right there...that's GOT to be explained to me if I were on a jury.

All I can think is maybe the routine she was in auto-pilot mode for generally didn't have the kid there with her.

I think it's also possible he was sleeping when she got there and didn't wake him up and assumed he'd be fine.

But whatever reasoning she has is up to her to figure out. She's gonna have to carry that guilt for the rest of her life. If it wasn't for the other kid being alive I think I'd just kill myself honestly. It's the biggest failure you could possibly ever have and nothing will ever make up for it.

With my kids, if I didn't hear them fighting or whining at each other for more than 10 minutes I would know that something is up that needs to be looked into.
Lol. Yup. With kids its when theyre quiet that you worry

Habit of not caring. Autopilot except your autopilot doesnt include kid checks because your care factor is 0

Yeah, could be just because my son has an absolutely breathtaking capacity for doing mind-numbingly dangerous things, but Im so used to checking on them catch myself doing a room check even when Im working from home and both kids are in school or day care.

According to the article, the younger one knows how to get out of the car on his own But didnt this timed chances are the older one also know how to get out of the car on their own. So, she probably didnt get either of them out of the car since they both usually do it themselves
