Crafting in subnautica never feel so intrusive to me, aside from occasional searching for minerals, but the progression is smooth.

The forest, i have heard amazing things about it, but most of the crafting involve you chopping woods and that shit takes too long to be enjoyable. You need to cut trees to build base, you need to chop wood to set traps you need defenses and traps to survive mutant attacks that require . . . Wood.

Should rename the game to The DeForestation. The mechanic makes sense and good even, but the implementation is too tedious. Chop wood, you can only carry 2 at once, build a sled that can carry a dozen wood so you run back for a building that need a dozen logs and 2 dozen for fences. The whole process took like an hour.

Not to mention it's buggy af. My sled once got stuck and sank into the ground. Kinda hoping more since it had overwhelming positive rating on steam, but i did not enjoy it.

The more I consume media, the more I realise that the general public has no idea about what's good and what isn't

I like both games a lot but the Forest a lot more. Probably because I like being in the woods. I agree though you need to cut a lot of trees and it's kind of annoying. Ironically I found Subnautica to be the scarier game.

I enjoyed subnautica becuase there is a great balance of fucking around and exposition/goal/ story. I heard the forest have nice story you piece, but cutting trees are just too annoying. Maybe i just haven't given it enough chance. But in subnautica, the pacing was sublime. There is just a right time between free roam in the shallows and the first emergency message that feed you more exposition

Yeah, you can just mess around and build if you want too though.

I have a friend trying to get me to play the forest with her.

My standards for a game that is multiplayer are way lower than for a solo game. Like it can be dogshit and still be fun.

Subnautica was one of my fav games ever though. I really hope they make another sequel that captures the spirit of the first one again.

Have you tried Raft? I loved that game and it's sort of in the same type of gameplay realm.

Ive been looking for another Subnautica-like experience for a while now. The Forest didnt do it for me either The pace is just too damn slow. At the end of the five hours I put into it, I did a reckless run where I kept pushing farther than was safe. I felt like I finally made some progress and the game started to get interesting, but I died and didnt want to do it again.
The only games that have kinda taken me back to Subnautica are The Outer Wilds (which is amazing) and Journey To The Savage Planet (which is a dumb funny game). Ive yet to play The Long Dark.

How can you say the pacing is slow? It's a much much faster game to play through

Outer wilds was AMAZING.

Journey to tha savage planet is fun metroid prime clone. It's nothing like subnautica tho imo aside from the premise (crash landed, have to scan native flora and fauna)

@gandalfl0 if you are looking for water exploring, alien planet game you should try in other waters

https://store.steampowered.com/app/890720/In_Other_Waters/

It's low budget and very minimalist. You don't actually explore in 3D like subnautica, but you explore the world by rada interface and the description of the world and creatures are written, but they are very well written that you can picture the expanse of the planet's ocean so easily. Probably the best portrayal of fictional biology i have ever seen.

I think my expectations were just way off. I was excited for more subnautica due to the tags and reviews. I wasnt prepared for the amount of work required.

In Other Waters looks pretty neat. I might play that soon

I actually kind of like that whole mechanic, my only gripe is the chopping itself can be kind of glitchy and make it take longer to fell a tree than it should (on PS4, at least).
