Aliens build one around our sun and transplant humanity to it's inner surface. They do so in a haphazard way though separating family, friends and loved ones. The main characters would be twins trying to find one another in a very hostile environment where everything is developing strange mutant / magical powers.

Do you think this would make a worthwhile story?

Yeah maybe. I'd read it probably. If it was a movie, I would watch that

Why did the aliens need to move humanity though?

Why would the aliens put humans in the dyson sphere?

I haven't decided that yet. Maybe there's a greater power that let's them make the sphere but they have to do the bare minimum to make sure native species survive or thrive

How about they use the humans as slave labor to make them maintain the dyson sphere?

AND while the humans are being used as slave labor, the aliens are pillaging earth for all its resources.

Alien should be portray as kind benevolent being bent on solving the the problem on earth by wiping all humanity by spreading deadly contagion that only affect humans

Robot can rust also they fear the rise of ai would lead to a greater rebellion. Human are just flesh and born.

I love that Dyson Sphere TNG episode. I wish the writers would of did more with it or had another episode where they explored the interior. Instead, we get an episode all about Scotty (which is still awesome) with the Dyson Sphere being a small part of the story.

While it sounds interesting, you need to keep in mind how mind bogglingly vast a Dyson sphere really is. Using standard earth transportation we have today you wouldn't even be able to explore 1% so the aliens should also leave some neat travel gadgets & long range range communications behind.

What if the Dyson Sphere generates Dyson waves that:
A: slowly destroys unshielded electrical components, and it is too costly to shield a single robot, and even more a construction force of them.
B: slowly mutate human genes which can result in cancer and/or superpowers.

Robots are expensive. Humans grow themselves, if you throw them enough and alcohol.

A Dyson swarm seems like a better option
