You know, I've always wondered if "chopping that meat" was a euphemism for sex.

Ever since Peter flew into town
He's been havin' a ball
Just cuttin' and choppin' for miles around
Single women, married women, old maids and all

There's an old woman, who's ninety-two
Lives down the street
She said, one thing more I wanna do
Is find ole Pete and let him chop my meat

Women pay his bail, so 100% it's about sex.

It's really incredible that Obsidian had entirely different songs that fit thematically with the setting, some even recorded by the director that didn't make it onto the radio, meanwhile Bethesda just used 90% of Fallout 3's songs most of which amount to "funny old song."

It absolutely is. Why would he start chopping on his cell mate the second they through him in jail? You think they'd let him keep his "long sharp knife" if it was an actual knife?

I didn't realize that there was anyone who didn't think that.

Ehh, there's always a thematic link, you just have to think about it sometimes. Like how "Civilization" is basically alluding to people becoming tribal and how "civilization" is flawed (which it was, because it led to an apocalyptic war), or how a lot of the songs sort of become an ironic contrast to just how shitty the world is. Or kind of hint at nostalgia for the happier times of the past, before everything went to shit.

The Wanderer is a reference to the fact that you're essentially wandering the world (and are similar to the Lone Wanderer of Fallout 3). Pistol Packin' Mama takes on an entirely new context in a world where literally every character is packing a pistol (and if you're playing as a female, you basically ARE the pistol packing mama). End of the World recontextualizes the original song (which is just a woman saying how it feels like the end of the world because of losing her love) because you're playing as a character who has lost their love and literally went through the end of the world. And so on.

And they did record 4 new songs for Magnolia (though you'll admittedly only hear them on the radio if you talk to her in Goodneighbor). And they did a pretty good job, because if you don't listen to the lyrics (or recognize Lynda Carter's voice), you might assume they were real songs from the 40s/50s. On top of which, you've got songs like Uranium Fever, Crawl Out Through the Fallout, or Atom Bomb Baby which feel like they should be fake songs they made up for the game, but which were actually real songs from the era (which is kind of crazy when you think about it).

There are a LOT of things to criticize Fallout 4 for, but I wouldn't necessarily say there's a major problem with the music (other than the fact that you lose the classical music station if you blow up the Institute). Reusing some of the songs from Fallout 3 is fine, since they also added a bunch of new ones as well (there's almost twice as many songs in Fallout 4 total as there are in Fallout 3).

Except that's not even remotely true.

"Reusing some of the songs from Fallout 3 is fine, since they also added a bunch of new ones as well."

GNR in Fallout 3 had about 20 songs. They only reused 12. Then they added about 25 new ones for Fallout 4. And then Magnolia's songs are another 5 extra on top of that. So Diamond City Radio has more than twice as many songs, more than 2/3rds of which are new to Fallout 4.

You may not like the ones they kept (or the fact that they reused songs at all), but implying they didn't put any effort into the radio in Fallout 4 is kind of a horseshit argument.

(And that's without even taking incidental music into account - Fallout 4 has nearly twice as many background tracks as Fallout 3 had, almost all of which are new.)

Again, there are plenty of things to shit on Fallout 4 for. Music really isn't one of them.

Almost everything I said above was only talking about Diamond City Radio. "Most" aren't from 3. Less than half are from 3.

60% of the songs from GNR in Fallout 3 get reused - 40% don't.

Only about 28% of the songs on Diamond City Radio were in Fallout 3. About 72% weren't. More than two-thirds of the songs on Diamond City Radio were and not in Fallout 3 at all.

So no, most of them aren't from Fallout 3. You are objectively and categorically wrong.
