Its one of the more interesting political shifts that have happened. The dems lost the blue collar working class. I blame it on them being inept and elitist (not that the GOP isnt elitist) and caring more about bathroom signs and canceling people than things that actually help people live better lives. Somehow the anti-union party that runs in giving corporations tax breaks instead of people has won over the same people that they seek to hurt.

I see the point you're making but it's worth pointing out also that there's a strong and prevalent force that is actively seeking to take away LGBTQ rights and women's body autonomy, so maybe framing it as "bathroom signs" is not totally accurate.

I mean maybe the left has a point about all these microaggressions, because we've fully progressed to macro aggressions now, with "don't say gay" legislation actually hitting.

Its $28 million for the FDA to basically hire more staff, that doesn't address the immediate issues of families not having access to formula. The FDA has a $4 billion budget, giving them another $28 million so they can spend a few months hiring, training and then sending out inspectors doesn't help people struggling with the issue now.

That manufacturer has 40%+ of the market, and that factory produces about 20% of all formula for the US.

How does $28 million to hire some more inspectors (when the facility was already inspected and in the process of having issues remedied btw) help families who needed access to formula ASAP?

sorry are you suggesting that the facility's changes should be allowed to go into effect with zero oversight and we should just trust that they fixed all the problems because they said so?

normally in industry when a supplier makes a bad product and has to redo their production line process, whoever's buying from them has some boots on the ground overseeing it, who inevitably find other problems

you seem to be shifting between "it's too much" and "it's not enough" while also saying "just give your kids formula that might harm them"

https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/7790/text

Here's the bill. It gives the FDA $28 million for "salaries and expenses". It doesn't get more formula on shelves, it gives the FDA some money with no clear intentions. It's 3 pages and that's all it calls for. Here's $28 million, we tried!

For an additional amount for Salaries and Expenses, $28,000,000, to remain available until September 30, 2023, shall be available to address the current shortage of FDA-regulated infant formula and certain medical foods in the United States and to prevent future shortages, including such steps as may be necessary to prevent fraudulent products from entering the United States market.

Thats why you should read past the title of bills.

The FDA has inspectors and has been inspecting that site since they had it closed. Are you insinuating that without this bill the FDA has nobody to actually inspect the facility...? They have a $4 billion+ budget that was increased by over $100M last year. Giving them more money to hire inspectors doesn't address the immediate issues.

And where in the text of the bill does it say that the bill is only "for the FDA to hire more staff" and/or "to hire more inspectors?" The text of the bill is much more broad. You should probably actually read what you posted instead of lying.

Please let us know exactly how this bill limits expenses to "only hiring more staff/inspectors."

LOL, you're blatantly dodging the question.

You claimed that the bill is "only for the FDA to hire staff/inspectors."

You then posted the bill and specifically referenced the "salaries and expenses" mentioned in the text.

Again: How does the text of the bill, "salaries and expenses," limit the $28,000,000 to "hiring FDA staff/inspectors?"

Seems like it would be easy enough for you to answer. Apparently not. You can't even properly support your own claims. It's a simple question. Answer it.

You're welcome to provide examples if you can find them; I have plenty of beef with the Republican Pary as well but most of this website has plenty to say about their disfunction; that being said, you're asking me to prove a negative which I'm not really interested in. A better example more in the spirit of what I was saying is the tendency to slash onerous regulations when Republicans go into office.

But it could possibly prevent the issues from happening again.

For the price of, like, 8 bullets in the military budget, we could've potentially prevented another factory shut down in the future.

Does it get formula on the shelves TODAY? Maybe not. Does it prevent potentially harmful formula to go on the shelves via factories opening back up without properly being re-inspected? Yes.

And all this doesn't address Republicans voting down the other 3 bills.

You're talking about spending. Spending and revenue are the factors of the deficit. There's spending recklessly, and there's spending responsibly. We're inevitably going to have to spend money on things. I wouldn't say either Democrats or Republicans would fit into the category of "responsible spending," but in recent history, Republicans have spent so much money that it drastically increased our deficit.

Republicans "slashing onerous regulations" has not helped them reduce spending in the slightest. Not to mention the fact that by May of 2019, Trump had spent $100,000,000 in tax payer dollars at his own resorts.
