Bump still in the tower. Need to use save states here and there to counteract freezing. It only happens when either Mint or Arche use spells IN A DUNGEON

Damn all these freezing bugs and glitches, suddenly the gba version doesn't seem so bad now does it

They really need to port Phantasia X to a modern gen platform. I don't care how just fucking do it already Bandai Namco. It's been almost 15 years.

The freezing really isnt as bad as I might be making it sound. It happened like twice and is easily replicated so I know how to avoid it. Tbh I just used it as an excuse as to why im not further along >_>
I had guests living with us the past couple days so I did not have any time at all to play

Finally got some time to play and was able to get the ball rolling again. Love Arche lampshading how generic Dhaos is. Destroying the world just for the sake of destroying the world.

that being said Im aware Tales games have a tradition of being very by-the-book in the first half, and then having a twist that turns everything you know on its head

Uh...I only beat ToP one time, and it was about 20 years ago, but I seem to remember that not being the case at all...you need to finish the game

Dhaos seems to be targeting anyone involved with MagicTechnology. We know in the present time magic is dead, so that probably has something to do with it. Dhaos probably wants to prevent the spread of this unnatural abuse of magic

Nope, just wait until the very end. :3

In the section where enemies are littered in the over world and I need to find the leader. Cool concept, but there are WAY too many enemies walking around. And theres no i frames for getting encountered, so if you flee, you immediately get forced back in to a fight

The flying Pegasus fight sequence wasnt that great. In Dhaos castle now. Disc 1 final dungeon vibes. Idk why, but its making me think of Woohoo University from Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga. Awesome franchise, still gotta play Dream Team and beyond.

No progress today, was busy with other stuff and Im also playing Dawn of Ys. I only really make playthrough topics for more traditional RPGs, tho. Ys is more of a Zelda-like game with less puzzles. Just fell off a bridge, got to like the 3rd or 4th town, and am exploring a castle/dungeon/palace thing. According to what some townsfolk had said, theres supposed to be a girl somewhere here. Next post will be ToP related lol

Just got the Handmirror item which I need to progress in Dhaoss castle. Probably to interact with the ghosts in some of the mirrors. But I actually left the castle to heal up and grind some extra cash. I ended up picking up a bunch of ?Sword items from random encounters, and sprinkling a Rune Bottle onto them turns them into Moon Falnx, a sword I can sell for 28000. Rune Bottles only cost 3500, so its a pretty great way to make some money. Using a mix of Rune Bottles, Charm Bottles, and ?Swords, I was able to buy 2 of those super expensive casting charms, the name of which escapes me at the moment. But the accessory that cuts casting time in half for spellcasters. Equipped them to Klarth and Arche, now Im headed back in to complete the rest of the castle dungeon.

I JUST realized, if you reorder your party, you can walk around the overworld with whoevers in the first slot.

but more importantly, you can mix reordering the party with the technical ring and LITERALLY PLAY AS ANY PARTY MEMBER. This whole time I thought you were only allowed to fully control Cress! Super cool of the devs to implement that, but ultimately it doesnt matter that much as Id say Cress is the most fun to play as, plus benefits the most from being fully controllable. The other characters work perfectly as AI partners. Besides, you can force them to use Artes/Spells at any time by using the menu

Dhaos clapped my cheeks a couple times but I finally beat him. Just spam Artes and manually cast powerful spells and summons with Arche/Klarth.

While looking for a Unicorn the gang splits up and now its only Mint and Arche in the party. Good thing Ive got a Technical Ring! Gonna be controlling Arche, should be fun.

Nevermind there were no battles in the area. But at least the Yggdrasil is saved and Mint has a fancy new weapon. Next I need to visit the legendary underwater city of.. Thor. Um, ok.

Good question.

I started by rhyming it with Chaos, but once I heard it in the narration/voice acting, I realized its a cross between Douse and Dowse. During one of the optional support skits, Cress even made a lame joke about dousing his plans.

i always like the trope of the long-forgotten and abandoned Sci-fi city in high fantasy games. Anyways, the main computer sent us back to the present finally and we fought (and killed?) Dhaos a second time.

But turns out hes doing the ol Giygas and comic book Ultron strat and attacking the past from another point in the future. Looks like were heading forward into time now to stop him from bombarding the past. Interesting turn of events.

Alright so I thought I was going off the beaten path by exploring the cave next to the Morrison estate in the future, but there was nothing waiting for me at the end. Turns out this cave is part of the storyline, but Im just not meant to be here yet.

I love how FF V did Summons and collecting them, almost all of them were acquired through side quests or side paths or optional dungeons, etc. I was expecting some Summons to be optional in this game, but it seems like all of them are naturally got throughout the story.

Got Volt and can now power the flying machines. The world is my oyster, and it seems like Im near the end of the game now.

I like how its been lampshaded a couple times that Arche could already fly this whole time, and how its come in useful in dungeons. Like having cutscenes of her flying over to chests, or the puzzle in Dhaos castle requiring her to fly up a hole in the floor/roof.

Arche and Chester bickering reminds me a lot of Rydia and Edge, among many other examples in media. Im betting they get together at the end, or at least share a moment.

YOOOOOO I visited Thor out of curiosity and theres a whole Shoot em up mini game you can play in here. Its actually really good and fleshed out! Such a random addition, lol.

I ought to replay this. I've only played the crappy GBA version.

It was a really flood game and Im glad I got to experience it, but I dont see myself replaying it, at least not for a LOOOOOONG time. Not any fault of its own, it was great fun, its just that long, structured rpgs dont really lend themselves well to replayability.

basically done the game it seems like, just flying around and visiting a bunch of optional areas. Got a Laser Sword which is basically a lightsaber and is extremely strong

The future definitely feels like its progressed passed the past and present, but some NPCs are in THE EXACT SAME SPOT and SAY THE EXACT SAME THING as 160 years ago. Thats just dumb and not appreciated. Elves and Half-elves saying you look familiar, do I know you? makes sense because theyve been alive those whole 160 years, but for human characters, how does that possibly seem acceptable? Super lazy

Bump. Need to collect to swords from the new ice town via flying, and on Freyland the giant desert. There was a tower in the distance that bothered me cuz I couldnt reach it earlier. Now is the time to visit. Also visited Thor again to collect a new spirit. The last-minute lore of the 3 empires of Thor Odin and Fenrir is super interesting.

Whoa thought that was a psp for a second was wondering why it looked so nice. Playing on vita sounds great but man that just makes me wish the psp version was localized and ported

I watched some videos on ToP X, and yeah the graphics are great, everything is nice and big and smooth.

Still just hobbling along in the game. Theres a cave near Early/Arlee the ice village, where supposedly Im supposed to find the Shadow summon. Ive already encountered Dhaos in the forest and collected the appropriate Summon Ring, but the guard still doesnt let me through. Not sure why. My other 2 destinations are the church in Freezikiel, the other ice town, and the big tower in the desert continent.
