Topic	About to start Tales of Phantasia (ps1)

Still just hobbling along in the game. Theres a cave near Early/Arlee the ice village, where supposedly Im supposed to find the Shadow summon. Ive already encountered Dhaos in the forest and collected the appropriate Summon Ring, but the guard still doesnt let me through. Not sure why.
