Capcom really is back and even stronger than they were a few years ago when they were on their way back up again. Hopefully they ride this momentum going forward and keep dropping one hit after another, be it with sequels or new games.

Capcom's been back for awhile now people have just been jaded.

Status Quo? Street Fighter and Resident Evil are improving, Dragon's Dogma could be back and classic IPs have been representation in compilations and made digitally available. This is way better than Capcom was doing for almost a decade.

Capcom has been ridiculously consistent for years now. I really hope Dragon's Dogma 2 actually happens though.

Shill what? I lost faith in modern day Capcom for almost a decade and am only really coming back around to have faith in them again now.

I'm not sure why people are upset that they're not rushing out another garbage paint by numbers Ace Attorney game. I mean, no doubt whatever their next release in the series is it will still be utter trash, but at least I am glad they're contemplating how to make it the best trash they can make.

In fact, you shouldn't at all be concerned with them not putting out a new Ace Attorney game because every day they don't is one day longer that Phoenix lives with whatever tiny shred is left of his dignity as a character.

This series needs to die so bad.

RE 7 is when they started the come back tour, that game righted the ship and thankfully its still going strong.

I like Capcom, but a lack of Mega Man is disturbing. Besides Mega Man X Dive, we haven't had a real game since Mega Man 11. That release almost 4 years ago. Then we had a legacy collection of Mega Man Zero/ZX back in early 2020. Most fans have been waiting on a Battle Network/Star Force legacy collection or a Mega Man 12 or a Mega Man X9. Still nothing.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is all I care about and I'll believe its real when and if Capcom does announce it.

Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice are trash because they're games where Capcom is just spinning the wheel trying to come up with any reason to have another Ace Attorney game. It's certainly not because they have anything interesting to say with Phoenix's character who somehow lost all his AJ development and became a Flanderized version of his trilogy self despite like I dunno, 15 years happening? At least 10.
Still acting like an incompetent child just reaching out for whatever wild tangent he think he can make even the dumbest lifeline out of. He's not allowed any development because he has to be kept stagnant for the audience that loves him how he is. Despite the fact that he now has not even one, but two proteges to teach, rather than just goofying around with the hippie topknot girl. The one time in either game there seems to be any development for him, in him engaging in the Civil Trial in SoJ5 the game undermines it completely by having it be a blackmail situation.

The Dark Age of the Law theme of Dual Destinies was utter desperation to come up with a reason for a new game. Literally nothing changed in the world of law between the first game and the now, but because they gave it a spooky name suddenly the corruption of the court system only came after Phoenix was disbarred and is some sort of tangible evil that can be excised from it. Despite that nothing changes again in Spirit of Justice's Japanifornia sections.

I actually like Apollo's DD backstory, so I dunno where that came from. Though planting another, nearly incompatible one on top of it in SoJ was really silly. SoJ in general has a feeling of upping the ante in a quest for relevancy. We just had the dark age of the law (that made no sense), how do we top that? Uh, how about an entire country deep in its own dark age of the law that he have to save through glorious revolution? That sounds epic and not stupid! And to make the characters feel invested, if Phoenix loses he dies too! That'd be like super cool and totally not stupid that he'd go to a foreign country he has no attachment to and put his life on the line at the blink of an eye cause like principles or something, never mind that he's choosing to risk his daughter being parentless on a whim.
It's okay because as we established, Phoenix is no longer a character who develops or acts like a person. He's just a replicant based on his younger years that spins its wheels and is the same lovable oaf as back then. But also, to be super cool and super extreme, at the end of the game the final boss you fight in court is the literal queen of the country and she looks like an EXTREME evil Disney queen with a bondage kink. Look at all these extreme angles we put on our game! Doesn't that justify its existence now?

Athena is a worthless character who takes up time that could have been used to develop Phoenix or somehow improve the games in other ways. It's obvious that she first and foremost exists for the purpose of Dual Destinies' plot. She has some development there as a character in relation to that plot, but mainly to expunge on Blackquil's situation. She receives no development as a lawyer, and by the second game they have absolutely no clue what to do with her, but they're stuck with her through their own shortsided choice to make a third playable character without any notable charactacterization other than ditzy happy-go-lucky anime girl.
It's a shame because I actually like her gimmick. It's a lot more engaging than simply moving the camera around a person's body until you notice a twitch. In an ideal world they would retire Phoenix or put him in the background and make her a center piece and make the effort to make her a good character and mantle assumer, but I have no faith that they'd be able to do that. I'm very much assuming they're gonna bring Apollo back despite SoJ's storyline feeling like it really wanted closure for him away from the WAA. Because these kind of story conclusions doesn't actually mean anything. Athena is too boring to be an MC without more work than they're gonna put into it and Phoenix can't carry a game on his shoulders alone without doing something with him and they won't do that. So Apollo is definitely coming back.

So yeah, what they're doing with the franchise right now is trash and it honestly feels like the equivalence of those yearly Call of Duty releases. Not that they release new games as often as that, obviously, but in that it feels like when they do release them, they do so because people want more Ace Attorney so let's make some money even though we haven't developed any new reason beyond that to have another game in the series.

Which is not to say there's nothing at all good in these games. I think Turnabout Academy is one of the best cases in the franchise, and the NASA stuff in late DD is really fun. The civil trial faceoff is good despite the copout motivation. But that's not related to the mission statement of the games. their reason for being. It's a few moments of effort in a bland going through the motions experience.

But until Breath of Fire gets a proper sixth title or BOF7, they ain't fully back yet.

lol You do know Breath of Fire 6 ended up as failed mobile game that barely lasted over a year right? I know it's a mobile game but it couldn't even develop into something even somewhat successful like Mega Man's mobile game... so why should Capcom revive Breath of Fire? Especially after this long? They should at least make HD remaster digital versions for various online marketplaces, but that's about all the love it deserves unless those sell a lot which is extremely unlikely. So yeah, Capcom is back, because BoF was hardly ever a real asset for them, unlike Street Fighter, Resident Evil and Monster Hunter which carry HARD. Dragon's Dogma is BoF's spiritual successor anyway.

I know that the chance of them making a new battle network or starforce is pretty much 0 but how hard is it to make a collection for the both of them.

I was really hoping for an RE Classics collection brought to steam and all modern consoles.

Those upscaled versions of RE1 (DC), 2 (DS) and 3 would be absolutely banger.

Other than Dragons Dogma, that list is what theyve been doing for like the past 20 years. Basically, if you dont like RE and SF they might throw your series a couple games every decade, or they might just make zero-effort compilations out of it.

Also this. You only got four IPs they got going for them. All the more reason to bring back more of the old classics people still fondly remember. Strike while the iron's hot and they got the money/budget capability to make them good.
