Not good. People here in Japan already have a huge issue with people IRL basically being forced to be nice by the culture and government to the point that most interactions feel fake. Doing it online too just takes away an outlet for frustrations, and true expression.

Though I imagine most foreigners won't give a shit about the concern for the rise of authoritarianism that some here liken to the Chinese social credit system, but unspoken.
China does it? Oh no, they're awful.
We do it, which is a rising cause of suicide and feeling like you have no true friends? It's okay, because they like our cartoons.

Ngl, that was the first thing that I thought of when I saw the topic title.

She's certainly not the only person to commit suicide after online abuse but she and a couple of idols whose names escape me were public figured and it's generally harder to ignore something when it comes right to the forefront.

I'm skeptical that it will work but that's only from the perspective of knowing that such a thing would be impossible where I live.

how Is something like that monitored and enforced?

japan does have a bit of a history of rather extreme cyberbullying but I can't imagine this is the best way to deal with it

More does need to be done about cyberbullying (and bullying in general) but I'm not sure this will actually solve the problem and just be used to censor people.

But we change nothing after school shootings.....
