So true.

This is actually a trend Ive been noticing lately. Where people complain about something modern, but something beloved from their childhood can have those same problems but those same people will just ignore it.

Its a very.. interesting phenomenon.

Rarely, Cap and Thor are both known for their serious demeanor. Its the same philosophy of if everyone is a star, nobody is a star. If everyone is clever, nobody is clever. Its very lazy writing to have everyone have quips, that isnt how it works in real life either.

And Cap rarely quips in the MCU, so whats your anger about? Thor I can see, but the audience likes a funny Thor far more than a serious one.

You are the one whining about Cap throwing the occasional joke here and there like he apparently does in the comics. He isnt constantly making jokes like Tony is.

Funny that you bring up Iron Man, because he was also a rarely funny, C-list character before the movies. And I would hate for you to find out just how unfunny Peter Quill was before the movies.

no. I recognize that the comics they're based on know how to use colour, while the movies don't. that in and of itself makes them worse as adaptations.

I addressed the point about serious moments being undercut. Twice in fact.

As for run timesuh youre literally the first person Ive seen complain about it. And since you seem to hate these movies, I imagine every second of film is torture to you. So I just say make them longer. We get more bang for our buck, and you can just stay mad for all I care.

Marvel is a giant corporation whos making billions right now putting people in capes and writing a few jokes for them. So they absolutely dont give two shits if you have extremely lame critiques. They also dont care at all if I challenge your critiques either. So ima keep doing it either way. I imagine youll do the same too.

Bro what? Florence Pugh is universally praised and her performance is agreed upon as the best thing in that movie. Movie is very forgettable but shes fantastic. Shes also brilliant in the Hawkeye show.

I couldnt see post 64 because you quoted someone who has me blocked, but I see you are still missing my entire point, and other users have agreed with me (including the guy who has me blocked). Its called opinions, you need to be able to better deal with them. Just like I have to accept your bad opinion that quips make a movie better to begin with.

Meanwhile millions of people are just enjoying this extremely unique experience of an extremely well made, interconnected universe and are having fun. It will always be a bad look when people try to stop others from enjoying themselves.

If so many people are enjoying it and the movies are doing well, why do fans need to focus so much on criticism and people like Scorsese?

I would expect this level of justification and cope by DCEU fans, not MCU fans.

Theres absolutely things that can be criticized about the MCU , but when something gets as big as it the critiques can be so lazy and undeserved. Saying its not cinema is absolute horse shit. Its literally the words of an old man out of touch. If you cant appreciate this new way of story telling where audiences are following plot threads from movie to movie, now movie to show and vice versa. And seeing audiences stay through the credits just to see a new piece of whats to come. I mean those elements alone, the level of engagement fans have with these properties is like nothing else.

And the fact theyve been consistently good at it for over a decade is mind boggling. Every film franchise and studio wishes it could pull of anything close or the MCU, and so many have tried.

So please, theres a lot of things to critique. But sitting there on the sidelines acting like a sad sack, trying to kill the vibe. Its doing no one any favours and is such a bad look. Ill call it out for what it is every time.

I only remember "I understood that reference" and that's barely a quip.

If anything, it helped popularize more hollywood films to interject quips and forced humor.

Idk about comics as I'm more q DC guy on actual comics. But I recall captain America making a snide joke at iron mans expense in the animated avengers show. I can't remember the fine details bit Iron man was alluding to his age because he still read newspapers and cap responded he liked them cause they showed he (iron man) didnt know how to fight. Then showed him the front cover where I guess the pic was showing iron man using poor fighting technique in the pic.

His comments come across not only as gatekeeping BS, but also unprovoked and insecure. Who was saying the MCU was high art or real art or however you want to define it before he made that comment?

But since thats the topic at hand right now, I dont agree with the inference either. That because its a theme park it cant be real art. I get what he means by the theme park comment. Its colourful, flashy fun that has something for everyone.

I dont believe theres one definition for what can be real art and I dont believe a creators passion project fits the only description. To even say its made by the creator, for the creator, Is nonsense. The amount of people it takes to make a film, but lets assume even if one person wrote, produced, directed, edited, scored, etc. it still then finds its way into audience hands, into critics hands. If you release something to the public, Im sorry to say, it then belongs to public opinion.

Is it art? Is it dogshit? Idk thats maybe for the individual to say. All things are weighed equal as far Im concerned in the public eye. Be it one of Scorseses or a superhero movie.

I believe the MCU is bursting with artistic merit myself. Its way of creating moments, characters and stories is like nothing else, like Ive repeatedly said. Does it capture the same feelings, invoke the same emotions as Goodfellas, for example? Of course not. All art is subjective and different. But the emotions and feelings Ive had in the theatre and at home watching these films hasnt been captured by any other film property to date, and nothing else will come close to touching some of those moments personally. And you can laugh and dismiss it all you like. If it were as easy and forgettable as people like to foolishly assume. Everyone would be doing it. And you know as well as I, theyve tried. A lot.
