He is a corrupted antihero but yes once used to be a villain.

Remember, the purpose of trailers is to make movies look awesome. Even the shittiest of movies can be made to look good if the editing firm making the trailer is good at their job.

Not going to knee-jerk assume the movie is going to be trash, but based on DC's prior track record that's certainly a more likely scenario than it actually being good. Sure, The Rock will probably pull it up a bit even if the script is terrible just by being his usual charming SOB self, but even he can only do so much. It's still more than possible that it could be hot garbage.

I'll admit the trailer looks good and I'm interested in seeing what it's like when it finally comes out, but I'm not going to jump on the hype train and start ranting about how it's going to be their best movie ever or anything. I've been burned waaay too many times.

He was originally, but they retconned that about 15 years ago or so.

Basically, he's sort of in the same camp as Sinestro now, where he's a badass who was recruited to fight against evil, and who sort of valued being Lawful over being Good. Which sort of led him to become a tyrant (especially after his family was murdered), until he was overthrown. Then he wakes up in the present and is mostly pissed off because everything he ever knew and loved was gone, which sort of leads him to just sort of be angry and evil. But in theory, he could be redeemed back into being a hero with the right motivation.

In the comics that wound up being Isis - who he fell in love with, and whose own more idealistic personality began to influence him for the better. To the point where he basically went back to his old homeland and tried to turn it into a better place... albeit in sort of the same way that Doctor Doom protects and rules over Latveria.

So since then, there's sort of a mindset that as long as he's with Isis (and she's in the movie - though they may be hesitant to use that specific name for real-world political reasons), she kind of keeps him good. So we're probably getting a scenario where the modern day love interest helps him to become a better man than he was.

The implication is that the reason why the wizard Shazam keeps looking for kids who are pure of heart to make his champion is because the last time he tried it he picked Adam, and it didn't work out so well.

It'll probably be symbolic. Like, it'll be dirty because his soul is dark, but then by the end he'll be more of an unambiguous hero and it'll burn clean and just be bright like Shazam's is.

Then you get the added benefit of the costume being black but the bolt being bright, to symbolize how he stands between the light and the dark, etc etc.

I think this would have made sense back in like 2004 but hes been in so many movies and hes actually a good actor

I don't question his acting skills, but he still takes me out of the movie just because of how unique his look is, like you see him and think that's the rock, I just can't see him as the character personally
