What's the point of a Supreme Court security bill? Don't we already have existing laws and procedures that keep them safe? I don't exactly see anyone blowing them or their loved ones away like they were school children or teachers in a classroom.

I think the obvious answer here is we need to arm the teachers and have them patrol outside the houses of the justices. Everyone wins, right?

Why don't they ask their guns to save them?

It's crazy to think that there is no security for our supreme court justices at the moment

They should pass all the gun control they're wanting to and name the bill the "Supreme Court Security Act"

They can just make it to where their homes only have one door. That will stop it.

Maybe if the SCOTUS had more prayers for Jesus around their houses they'd be safe. It's all we need to get schools safe, right? And look, nobody even got hurt, clearly the prayers worked.

No, theres a false sense of leverage. The Democrats could put forth a bill exactly as the Republicans demanded it.

Manchin will waffle back and forth before deciding to vote against it, then the Republicans would still vote against it to a man, then blame Democrats for doing nothing to protect government officials.

Well, yeah, he's put decades of work into making federal courts illegitimate. He doesn't want all that work to go waste, since it'll be his legacy. Well, that and people dancing on his grave, because there will be a lot of that too.

a republican SC judge, on the other hand, someone who lives in a safe area and most likely has his own security, having his safety threatened, is now something of the utmost priority, and needs to be addressed NOW

Do you think we should place less precedence on the security of the President?

This isn't a defense of the GOP. They're collectively playing partisanship as they always do. But protecting public officials from physical violence is important regardless of whether or not you agree with them. Otherwise, it undermines the entire state. I promise you that a country that's dictated by who's more effective at leveraging violence and threats of violence to get what they want isn't one you want to live in.

Without knowing specifics I'm sure they do. You and me also almost certainly don't have complete strangers that would specifically target us and murder us or members of our family given the chance either.
