Stop making your hosts/servers lives hard. If you dont make a request before we start going to a table then stay where we fucking put you. I dont put you there for fun. I have a plan.

Especially those fucking losers who are like 4 tables down from it and still think its too close. Most are fucking rude about it too. They always just make stupid waving motions or go No no no or straight up say nothing and sit themselves somewhere else which is the easiest way to earn yourself delayed and shitty service both deliberate and unintentionally so.

Its extremely common though? Space is premium and having some 50-100ft buffer zone or something unused is silly.

The bathrooms have doors and are in a hallway. There are two walls separating the toilet from the dining area.

a well designed restaurant has a buffer built in. If customers dont want to sit near the entrance to the hallway to the bathrooms, then they are just being dicks

Your second point isnt really worth addressing. Its so paranoid about germs that its laughable. When you walk you dont just shed loads of bacteria off your hands onto whatever is nearby without touching it. Your hands dont sneeze.

The lack of hand washing is an issue for paying with cash and door handles but thats not an issue at the table.

Yeah, shame on anybody who's concerned about germs or hygiene after living through the last two years, especially in a setting where people are there specifically to eat food.

And I didn't say that the stuff just jumps off the hands on its own, I was specific about people who come out shaking their hands to get excess water off because the air dryer didn't do a good enough job.

I think the request itself is fine, but needs to be made when you are initially talking to the host. That way the host can be like "sure thing, but please know that it could potentially be a longer wait for your requested area to be ready"

It definitely isn't a request to make as you are being seated.

You seem to act like people saying "I don't want a shitty table" is some slight against them? Why have a table in a shitty place anyways? It's only to squeeze extra bottom line out of it.

If you're going to have a table in a suboptimal place that people randomly have a chance of being assigned to, don't be surprised when people bitch.

I'm not even saying that there aren't people who take it to far. But to pretend like it isn't a valid complaint from them is insane.

People keep insisting on putting high chairs in the aisle. Even the ones sitting right by the fire exit or someone in a wheelchair. They also dont seem to count babies as human as they always leave them out of headcounts.

Unless that baby is in your lap 100% of the time a high chair takes up just as much space as a chair.

I'll defend ya on this. I worked in a restaurant for a few years. It isn't as huge a deal for places that aren't usually busy but if you're in a busy place having people seated in wrong locations can fuck a lot of stuff up.

You have to have a certain amount of tables to be a viable buisness. Not only that but I already explained why its not shitty nor is it viable for many places to have a huge buffer. In addition a huge part of the issue is HOW guests handle it. Instead of requesting things at the podium they childishly get mad when we get near the table.

And again short staffed like every restaurant is. I dont have time to clear a different table and I dont want to overseat a section.

Yes but only if we arent crowded. If we are crowded you take whats open or accept an indefinite wait with zero complaint.

Honestly I sympathize with both parties in this case. A lot of restaurants dont have a hallway for the bathroom so the smell can be obvious and disgusting. Even if you cant smell it, the constant flushing of toilets makes for an off-putting atmosphere. But Im sure it makes life difficult for servers to have to deal with customers who want to sit someplace else and ruin the strategy behind the seating arrangements.

Not wanting to sit by the bathroom is a perfectly reasonable request. Now if they're rude about it or throw a fit when that's the only table available, then the customer is in the wrong.

Shut the fuck up, making corrections to your path through a small room and making a few minor mental adjustments are not making your life as a server hard. I'm not a dude who says servers should just bend over backwards for shitty customers, but there's a limit to what you can reasonably complain about.

It also applies to understaffing.

If I have 1 server with tables spread out across the entire floor it will result in a severe decrease in speed and quality of service.

TC is being over dramatic. The customer should make the request before they are seated. Ill often ask for a booth instead of a table and am glad to wait if needed. No one is going to expect to be sat next to the bathroom though, but Ill side with TC on the part where people will get up and move to a new table without asking.

All of the restaurants I have been have no seats or seating near a restroom. Wouldn't that also be a health code violation to even have a setting like that?
