I heard that employers can give two weeks but thats not required right? So does the average worker get any at all, or does it depend on the company? What about sick days, do you not get paid for those too?

For those who get some, is it true companies or co-workers try and guilt you into feeling uncomfortable for taking time off?

I get 5 weeks vacation, 1 week sick, and 11 paid holidays. This is pretty out of the ordinary though. Yes we are guilted about taking off from work. "Since you took off Friday can you work a double Sunday so that so and so can have off? They covered for you". No I took off because I need a break from work. My time off is part of my compensation. If I don't actually get that time off and it just shuffles my schedule around when I try to take it, I'm not resting and recharging from my time at work.

Anyone employed by and working in the securities industry is required to take a two week vacation every year. Its designed to catch you if youre doing something shady, but it mostly works out to the workers benefit.

Two weeks a year is still way too small considering how difficult and exhausting employment actually is.

Employers generally think that they're entitled to other people's lives.

Two weeks doesnt comprise the entire amount of vacation granted per year, nor does include paid sick days.

Ah that's a bit different then.

Depends on the company. I work for the state (Hawaii) and we get 12 paid holidays (13 on election years, or every other year), plus 1.75 sick and vacation days per month (so 3.5 combined that can be used interchangeably). 3.5x12 comes to 42 days sick/vacation + 12 or 13 holiday for a total of 54/55 paid days off, or 7.7 weeks off per year.

When I worked at FedEx I had unlimited sick time, but it was really capped at two weeks (most I ever had to use, and they said if I needed more time I'd have to go FMLA). Had 23 vacation days. Started with six holidays off, but due to everything getting crazy busy we had to work most holidays, including Christmas (though I quit right before that requirement).

I get ten days now at my current job. Add one day a year. But then again I was at FedEx for fourteen years, so I started a little lower.

I get 29 vacation days, and 9 (I think) paid holidays. We don't get sick leave, so if you are sick that would come out of your vacation days.

Yeah, I probably shouldve worded my initial post a bit differently.
