I already knew the coin in question was dodgy at this point but wasn't paying attention while trying to buy a different one and clicked the wrong thing. There's another one slightly higher value than that (as in, still under $200) that I can't really mention here, beyond stating that it involved deception around the quantity of something. And that would be the worst. Sent the money ahead of time with a certified check. Here's where it goes off the rails. They sent me a check for way more than the $150 (like $900) and told me to pay the moving guy with the remainder when he arrived. Tried to cash the check at the bank and the clerk almost immediately could see it was a fake. I was always under the impression a certified check was always good because they took the money out of the account before they wrote the check. Apparently not so. Basically I would have cashed the check into my account, taken the amount with cash out, paid the guy, and only after a few days would the bank have cancelled the check and I would have been out $750. A guy was offering to trade gift codes to redeem those pets in exchange for in-game gold. Obviously, anything that involves receiving a code from somebody is already a HUGE red flag...but I didn't know that back then, it was probably ten years ago now. I gave the man 8,000g (which was a fairly significant, but not ridiculous amount at the time) and he gave me the code. I redeemed the code. Got the pet. Then the next day the pet was gone because he refunded the transaction. Never saw the guy again lol --- I write Naruto Fanfiction.
