If you do, what helps you deal with it?

Both though anxiety is the main trigger for my depression. What helps is my citalopram 20 MG and years of building up towards a life that's worth living. Also all the therapy I got along the way to give me some tools to help handle things better.

I've never been diagnosed, but I was bullied for like 12 years and my home life was always really challenging. I remember realising that I hated myself at around 11 or 12 years of age.

There's definitely something wrong with me, but I haven't been able to stay the distance with a professional for long enough to get a diagnosis.

Yes, and they're both incredibly bad; I'm also bipolar and autistic, which compounds those conditions. Seriously like, there's a reason I'm a NEET.

And for anyone not in the know, generic platitudes like "Don't give up", "It gets better", "I've been there too", or "Life is beautiful" don't actually help anyone; don't try to comfort a mentally ill person with platitudes, regardless of your intentions. Depending on the dynamic and their boundaries, of course.

Anxiety and insomnia is the main one, but the depression follows quickly and heavily on its heels once I get into an anxiety spiral.

Usually it goes, I have trouble sleeping, which ramps up the anxiety, which makes it harder to sleep, etc. Then the anxiety opens the door for the depression and it just becomes an unhealthy clusterfuck if I dont manage it properly.

Thankfully, Im on top of it now and have come to recognise the signs of when ones about to start and have strategies in place. First of all, regular walkies really helps for the exercise and mindfulness. I live in an area with some lovely walks, thankfully. I also take a very low dose of an anti-anxiety medication thats to be honest lower than the minimum therapeutic dose, but it helps me get to sleep at nights without turning me into a *completely* affectless zombie the next day.

Medication helps me a tiny bit, but other than that...nothing really. I'm far more suited to spontaneity than long-term plans of any sort, which is one reason I detest psychiatrists and therapists/social workers.

In other words, by doing nothing, eventually my mood gets better. I feel like it actually gets worse if I try to force anything.

Xanax
I've been given a super small dose Xanax twice by a doctor to get me through a procedure and those were the two happiest times of my life. What exactly is the reason behind the demonization of Xanax? I assume there are strict regulations for it, but why? I've thought about seeing someone for my anxiety and getting a low dose of it, but the common experience seems to be that doctors want you off of it almost as fast as they give it to you...if they will give you any at all. My PCP never even mentioned a one-time dose of Xanax for a procedure, so I lost months of my life and lived with terrible pain because I couldn't get a diagnostic done. When another doctor finally offered me a tablet, it was a huge fight to get the pharmacy to even give it to me.

I'd love to know the reason. Is it addictive or something?

Most doctors don't like it because it can be physically addicting, and there were some studies connecting it dementia, but those don't have anything close to concrete evidence, so it's mainly the addiction thing. I've been taking it for 20 years and I can quit it cold turkey no problem, but I will feel really anxious for a few days if I do. Also, for me, I wouldn't say Xanax makes me happy so much as not care about all the things that make me anxious...

I definitely have anxiety. But really only like big picture anxiety if that makes sense.

I dont have actual depression, but there are definitely things that make me feel depressed (typically hand in hand with that big picture anxiety).

Theres nothing I really do to help with that. I just try to focus on the good, but sometimes I overthink and it can really be a challenge.
