That Amber writing that she was a survivor of domestic abuse was defamation against Johnny Depp.

Ah. In that case, I expect some sort of "she thought she was a victim and as such wasn't knowingly lying in order to destroy his reputation" outcome.

The issue in UK was the Sun didn't have to prove much because they are 3rd party. They just had to believe in good faith Amber's claims could be somewhat credible and win.

If I understand it right, she never actually named him in the article in question, which should in theory make it very very hard, if not impossible, for Depp to win a legal claim that he has been defamed by it. Although she's then spent so much time "defending" herself by saying "no, it's totally about Johnny..." (when a better defense would have literally been saying nothing at all) that I'm not sure that argument holds water anymore.

But her performance in the trial has totally exonerated Depp in the court of public opinion, which in a case like this is absolutely the most important thing.

With regard to the issue of her not naming him, she did slip up on the stand and explicitly say that she wrote it about him.

The biggest problem is that for as terrible as her lawyer has been, this line in the closing arguments effectively summarizes why Johnny is not likely to win:

Writing an op-ed about him isn't enough in the case of celebrities or politicians. You need to prove that she intended to destroy Johnny's career with the op-ed AND it has to all be lies.
