Starting a month or two ago, if your kindle is connected to Wi-Fi, all new USB -loaded books will be checked out and have their covers forcibly removed before they will display, coverless, on your kindle. You have to then update metadata a second time for it to work (assuming thats what calibre is doing). But, books load just fine on airplane mode. Only when you connect to internet it starts. This is scary that amazon is willing to do this to promote their own book sales. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Pretty soon Amazon will start charging you first for the book itself and then charge you again each time you turn the page. Yes as long as you don't connect to the internet (or rely on it) I have all of my books backed up - I can re-load them without ever connecting online. Same with nearly all of my movies & TV shows. Many I've had in this format since the early 2000's : so it has worked for 20+ years so far. I tried going digital only with the Wii. After that disaster, I'm pretty much physical only unless there is a specific game I must have. ... Copied to Clipboard!
