I haven't read the books, but the show felt pretty boring and generic, IMO.

I don't think I'll watch the next season.

As a book fan, the show is complete and utter garbage, and shits all over the lore that Robert Jordan spent decades building up.

I was a big fan of the first five books back in the day, but then I felt that the author lost his way around Book 6, and I didn't finish the books

I almost watched the TV show, but in the end I didn't want to pay for it. If they do a run of the show with commercials (where I don't have to pay), then I'll watch it

Never read the books. The show was like a 5/10. Nothing special at all, and the characters were mostly super annoying or dumb.

Still enjoyed the show and looking forward to more.

Most changes I really don't care about and several greatly improved on the book imo. Were some odd choices/changes, but nothing I felt was really egregious.

Me and my wife are big fans of the books. We went in, hopeful.

We watched the first 3 episodes, and didn't touch it again. I kept up with what they did in later episodes, and we were both glad not to have wasted our time. They omitted a lot of small, yet vital details from the books; added in entirely new things instead. Changed characters from the books so...drastically...they might as well be different characters.

Basically...Did not enjoy. Hated.

I enjoyed it but you can tell they really scrambled after that Matt actor bailed out, the pacing and narrative suffered as a result.

Also think they seem to be underplaying the Forsaken card.

If they can just fix the books' problems with pacing and general attitudes towards women then this will be a winner.

Yeah, you can definitely tell were some issues from that. But what can you do when one actor just stops turning up without a word?

My biggest issue is probably just one point at the end with Rand going off on his own, rather than his bro's as means much of the second book will change. Not necessarily a bad thing, but does point to the fact they might be making things up, rather than following the story as was. Makes me wonder how they will introduce "Selene", and what they are going to do with getting the horn/dagger back and everything else that came with that venture. A lack of Elayne as well, as I presume she is going to show up at some point?

For me, it was way too short.

Where the books can kind of drag, it felt like the show was just blazing its way through the plot. We barely get any time to know our characters, 8 episodes was simply not enough content imo. I'm okay with stuff being compressed down, especially with this series lol but this felt way too rushed.

I enjoyed it enough to continue watching, it's certainly turned out better than the last book adaptation I was looking forward to. Here's hoping it doesn't end up as disappointing as American Gods did!

I read the first, I dont know, 8 to 10 books back in high school but didnt keep up with the series after that. That was 20+ years ago now so I didnt have a great memory of all the little details, which probably helped me enjoy the show a bit more than if I had been able to pick out those small changes. It wasnt amazing or anything, but it was good enough that Ill watch more in the future. I liked the visuals of the magic system and am curious to see how the taint changes things up.

I've read 7 of the books so far over the last 10 years or so.

There's changes for sure. That pissed off a lot of people. Personally I am giving the changes a chance to pan out. Some of them at face value seem weird but make more sense for character development (like Perrin having a wife)

The visuals were hit or miss and I know it's partially to due with Covid. They also increased their budget for Season 2 so hopefully they are better.

I'm going to miss the actor who played Mat. He was awesome.

All in all I'm enjoying it but am still kind of guarded about some of the changes. I'm not immediately hateful against them though.

I think a lot of the reasons will be spoilers for the books.

There's some things that Rand was supposed to do that they gave to other characters. That whole last battle? Rand was the one that came back and demolished the army.

Lan is a lot quieter in the book. Lan doesn't/very rarely shows emotion in the book.

Ogier aren't really how they described them in the book. They are too short by a few feet.

Mat not going in the Waygate at the end was a big change. They have said it's to better set up his story for Season 2 and that makes sense knowing his story but it's a weird change. I'm sure it also had to do with the fact he randomly left the show before they were completed filming so that made it even more awkward having to do reshoots.

In the book the women were never potentially the Dragon Reborn. It was always one of the 3 boys.

In the scene in the past where they show Lews Therin (the former Dragon) the woman there calls him the Dragon Reborn. In the books this is impossible. "Dragon" isn't some title like "Hero of Time" from Zelda that people keep having over thousands of years. "Dragon" was what they called him because of his actions. So there can't be a Dragon Reborn because it isn't a thing. It's Lews Therin being reborn who happened to be called The Dragon. There has only ever been one. And prophecy says he will be reborn when the time is right. This one kind of irks me but I'll wait and see what they do.

That's a few off the top of my head. Personally none of them super bug me. The last one kind of does but I'll give them some time to explain it.

Also, not really a change but they haven't explained "ta'veren" at all. They have mentioned it a few times but not gone into detail. They probably will more next season. There's still a lot of lore that is missing.

As someone who grew up loving the books, and enjoyed the show was only one real issue I found with it. It was different from the book, but I feel the main issue will be in how they handle it going forwards see as was handled very differently. That being Rand going with Moraine alone, and than vanishing, compared to them all going and then Rand leaving with the lads.

Having the girls kill the invading army instead of Rand really isn't that big of a deal to me, and personally I thought was actually better. They actually showed the dangers of using too much magic, rather than often that just it being told about as in the books. Also seems they are having Rand come into his power more slowly, compared to the overwhelming burst he had at the end of the first book, which I feel works better. He constantly did his best to avoid using it unless he had to, so felt better he had a concentrated effort against just the immediate foe.

I also think how they handled the "big bad" they faced at the end better in the show than the books, even if I do wish the forsaken had more prominence - and hopefully we'll see more of them in the 2nd season. Helped show the insidious nature of the dark one/forsaken and the promises he offered Rand very well.

I understand people's issues though. That the girls were a possible "dragon reborn" does clash a little with the prophecy as the book put it, but it's ultimately irrelevant. That people's souls can be reborn as a different gender doesn't really conflict with anything really, as "the pattern wills as the pattern wills". Maybe it wanted a dragon who wouldn't go mad?

Lan is infinitely better in the show in the book, and his relationship with a certain someone is much better explored. The books just have them suddenly confess out of pretty much nowhere, while the show actually shows some development between them.

The Lews Therin/Dragon Reborn thing was an oddity, but we'll see if they explain/fix it.

Mat's issue I imagine may have been due to the actor change, but who knows for sure. We'll see.

I felt the Ogier were fine personally, even if not as tall as they should've been. But a minor nitpick ultimately.

Do wish we got more Thom though, and hopefully they'll have him show up more later instead.

I read The Eye of the World years ago and recently picked it back up and have started going through the series again. I am currently on book 3. So there is no nostalgia shading my words when I say pretty much everything they changed ranges from pointless to actively detrimental to the series. I got up to episode 3 and dropped it because I was bored and annoyed.

I did watch a summary of the back half and it sounds like it got a lot worse by the end
