I know about vocal minorities and such, but even some of the at first glance rational members of it's fandom are always in some way bigoted. Anytime I see a hateful comment it's some tween with a Black Templar Space marine profile pic or I'll hear about some internet horror story it's almost always about a 40K player. Lets also not forget the "God-Emperor Trump" thing some people were unironically pushing back when he was in office.

Like I'm familiar with the setting and can see why edgy kids are drawn to it but I feel like it ends up dragging the setting down so much it can be unenjoyable sometimes.

i don't think it's enjoyable just in general

Yeah but there are video game and other media in the setting so I don't think you have to collect $3000 in glorified action figures to call yourself a fan of the setting.

Perhaps I should have clarified that.

not one single warhammer videogame is good

maybe the vermintide games, but that's just another reskin of left 4 dead

Because it's less about WH40k fans being bigoted, as much as certain online communities that tend towards bigotry *cough*4chan*cough* also tend to unironically love the xenophobic aspects of the game. So the bigots express their bigotry in terms of burning the heretics or praising the Emperor.

Though if that's your problem with the game you might not have to worry about it any longer, because Games Workshop has been talking about social justice sterilizing their game for a while now. Because in the grimdark future where there is only war, it's also super-important for everyone to be tolerant of everyone else's cultures.

The Imperium of Man in Warhammer 40k is essentially space Nazi Germany.

As the lore developed (gradually, over decades) the iconography remained but the Imperium was gradually presented as less obviously evil (and it was always presented as the lesser of various evils). This makes it easier for people to latch onto.

Additionally, wargaming has always been very, very white male dominated. It makes a video game convention look like the UN. This has for the longest time been reflected in the lore. Space Marines, even now, are almost exclusively white men.

On a final note, Warhammer is very popular in countries with large white nationalist movements. I don't know which came first, its a bit of a chicken egg situation.

Ya see, the 40k universe for humanity is a caricature of ultra-nationalism, if a Warhammer player self-identifies with it... you're not SUPPOSED to identify with it!!

Also warhammer hates girls in their game, and only recently let girls be space marines.

Space Marines canonically couldn't be girls cuz the organ implants aren't compatible... However, since the launch of Primaris marines they could easily have changed that so IDK

the MMO was fantastic and i was really sad it died because there's still nothing quite like it, except maybe GW2's WvW, which is a lot more limited in scope. warhammer online had fuckin raids that were pvp and it was amazing. i remember a specific one where like 5 players on the losing team got hugeified and had to face off against a raid of like 40 others while fighting alongside their faction leader

unfortunately it came out when existing in the same spectrum as wow was enough to kill off an mmo

Yeah they literally rewrote the Canon that there are a new breed of space Marines who are six inches taller but chickened out on making girl marines lol

It's gonna happen at some point theyre just lubing us up a little

They're not the same thing. Battle sisters have existed for a long time, though largely as more of a fetish curiosity than as a serious army. They got revamped into a new model line a few years ago.

Battle sisters are nuns with high tech armor/weapons. Space marines are humans implanted with demigod DNA.

The only human beings that I know that are into Warhammer are Henry Cavil and the British guy that played the sheriff in Midnight Mass.

It's because people too stupid to understand satire think that it's glorifying space fascism instead of condemning it.

this too; though it's a crapshoot of a Total War game (some people loathe fantasy TW and only like historical), all 3 are still very good games

I've also heard good things about the xcom-like one released in the past few years (mechanicus iirc), but I can't personally vouch for it

Apparently Robin Williams was into it as well.

But also wh40k was always a privileged game that attracted certain people. So its not unreasonable to think those people would likely have the same mindset. Not saying they all do, mostly because I used to play it and I don't think I am a bigot. It's like golf, 80% of the people who play golf are a Corbon copy of the other people who play golf.
