The dude shot his grandmother before going to the school. Does that sound like someone who is mentally stable to you? Mental illness is the biggest driving factor behind these shootings, but left-wing rhetoric would have you believe its the evil guns. So rather than address the real problem that we can actually do something about, its a never-ending circle jerk trying to circumvent a constitutional amendment.

Mental health care in addition to mental health assessments are also things that the left has been pushing for that the right has been staunchly against.

what's the one thing all mass shootings have in common

I'll even give you extra time to think about it

Mental illness. Something happened in every one of these murderers lives to make them think that killing people is their only solution, especially since most of them end up dead.

Nice try though.

america will NEVER get rid of guns. there's too many gun obsessed freaks, even if they made it a felony to own a gun and did a full gun buyback program most gun owners would not participate no matter what, and could even lead to a legitimate civil war.

why are these people so obsessed with guns? I legitimately don't know. but they are

Isn't this a bit tautological? You're saying that by definition those who kill people are mentally ill, but is that how illness is diagnosed?

At any rate, mentally ill people with less access to guns are less dangerous to themselves and others.

I feel that blaming mental health is just a cop out answer because no one ever addresses how do we go about doing it. It's true that Mental Health is something we should be striving to get better at, the big and uncomfortable question is how exactly do we address it and how exactly we do fix it? Can it be something we fix? Are the methods done to fix the issue even morally correct? There's also another thing about people getting the wrong diagnosis or how about mass shooters that don't have any diagnosis of mental health issues? I feel that there should be more nuance to the applications and practicality regarding saying to improve mental health for everyone.

It's crazy to think not even 100 years had passed from when people were still put on trial and executed for being a witch that the second amendment was drafted.

Given what we have learned nearly 250 years later in regards to mental health, the amendment absolutely needs modern day adjustments.

In the U.K. in 1996 the dunblane massacre happened. 16 kids and one teacher shot dead by a single shooter with his legally owned guns. Very similar to this situation.

In response, the U.K. government banned all guns except single shot cartridge weapons.

We havent had another school shooting since.

I get the argument that there are already too many guns in America. But thats a cop out for me. It literally does not happen in any other developed country like it does in America. There is no decent argument at al for it been legal to buy and own guns so easily: its fucking insane.

Blaming mental health is so fucking dumb. If Putin launches nukes to destroy the whole world, it doesn't matter if we know the status of his mental wellness. We're dead.

If a man in the park has paranoid schizophrenia and was stabbing people because he is terrified of the government, I want that person PUT AWAY. I don't care where. I am sorry that their life is terrible and every day is hell for them. I want them AWAY because they are a danger to MY WELL BEING. If I had kids, even moreso. That is a big reason why we jail people, when they are a danger to society.

Mental health is not the answer to solving violence. Respecting mental health is overall a benefit to society, but trying to act like it's the solution to mass killings is utopian. Idk if any of you normies even realize but therapy does not cure everything 'wrong' with someone. Sometimes killers don't even believe there is anything about them that needs fixing.

It's not like an anime where someone has one conversation with the right perspective with a villain and suddenly they're the good guy because they understand the wrong of their ways.

Fortunately we don't have a nationwide obsession with driving drunk.

It's the obsession over guns that is the core of the issue. Kids grow up in families that shove guns down their throat. There is nothing inherently wrong with guns themselves. The issue is that America as a whole obsesses over them to the point where they value them as much if not more than human lives.
