Okay that's pretty dumb. No "licensed brand tax," and only 598 pieces (PPP, price per piece, is usually around 10 cents, which would place it near 60 bucks. I guess some of the track pieces are pretty big?

It's 50 bucks more, has 3000 pieces and looks infinitely better.

One thing that really impacts the price of the Lego is how many unique pieces it has. They actually used to have more sets back in the day with unique pieces that were only used in that set, so that would make their cost to create far higher.

These days they typically don't have as many unique pieces, maybe that Lego track one does. I wouldn't be surprised to see it use more than a few pieces you can't find in other Lego sets. People always want to look at price per brick, but there is a lot more going on beyond that. Especially for the financial department that prices these things.

Lego sets were always expensive as a child in the early 90s. One set would be like $69.99 even if it was just a scene with a helicopter with that neon green glass.

I was stupid as thought the new lego pieces were cool and I wanted to get those. But plain old legos were always the best. I used to build homes and bases for my plastic and resin toy figures.

One time I set up a multiple base long-term skirmish between all my toy menz. In the end, they all decided to share Barbie amongst themselves.

When it was new it was $369.99. Which seems about right for that theme and piece count.

Now that I think about it, I should've just got playdoh as a kid. As much as I like to build in Minecraft, I would've been able to make some cool shit. And for some reason the go-to first project is always a grey stone castle.

Then I moved on to a softer domain. Light brown dirt roads surrounded by grassy fields, crops, and two-tone light and dark brown wooden houses with lots of glass.

I always dream of making towering cities, but I never do it. Not only would it take forever, but the emptiness would ruin it. They need to let us plant people in Minecraft. Once we get easier access to villagers and being able to populate smart entities that can be congruent with the land and its blocks, then shit will really take off. Goddamnit, I'll build a sprawling metropolis. Then a high tower to behold them all. And then... to celebrate... summon a wandering comet to bathe them all in destruction and fire. (Right before backing up my save so I can keep doing it over and over again.)

I would never buy either, but those kinda make sense due to the piece count and how ridiculously large the set/box is. Plus its Star Wars/Disney so you know they have a big cut of the price.

Maybe because my parents never purchased me Legos as a kid, I don't see the appeal in it. Especially these crazy themed ones that are insanely expensive.

You take the time to put it together... and then what? Do you leave it alone forever? Do you take it apart?

I bought a Lego WW2 tank and it was like $100 (the one on the right).

Totally worth it too.

The more adult ones seem to keep them together mostly, kids for instance will make a lot of random things with pieces. It's basically why they love Minecraft so much they can build whatever they want, with a reasonable sized Lego collection this is also true.

Pro builders that spend in some cases 100's of hours can also make some incredible things, at a convention back in like 2016 I saw a giant aircraft carrier that had to be like 12 or so feet long custom Lego build it was impressive.

lego values the bikes with minifig at $10 each.
the loopings are both made of several large all-new specialized pieces, a total of 20 pieces.
there's also 2 half road plates in unique colors, and 2 coaster track turn pieces that cost a lot more than a regular brick.

I mean, people assemble models and leave them together. Same principle, unless people like the building and re-assembling.
