People like to compare it to his early work making fun of certain individuals, but at this point it comes off like the types who laughed at his old show to laugh at the funny black people instead of the humor of the show itself. I think Mulaney, a comedian specifically popular with lgbtq people, should have the self awareness to not publicly support a famous transphobe by springing a surprise set by him on his fans

I have to wonder how Chapelle would feel if someone white comedian got up and did a bunch of "lol black people" jokes. Punching down isn't funy, it's just bullying.

If, as the complaining tweets suggest, the massive stadium of 12,000+ people had a big laugh at Chapelle's jokes, then it was probably the right decision to bring him on. Doesn't seem like he's the one lacking awareness in that situation.
