Sexism is when someone is deliberately condescending, oppressive, or abusive to someone because of their gender.

Wanda isn't sexist or feminist, she just plain needs professional help and no one has bothered. Ought to be taken off missions until someone can help her with her deep rooted misery and find healthy coping mechanisms.

As for SW, I haven't seen most of the new ones, but it has always had strong women. Princess Leia, Mara Jade, Jaina Solo, Etaine, Bessany, Ashoka and probably tons more I don't know or have forgotten about. And characters of both genders have gotten in way over their heads and had to have their comrades come rescue them too.

TBH thinking about it the whole deal with accusing movies of peddling "the message" is probably more about using them as platforms to project their own political views onto. Yuck.

Also, the reception to MoM (and especially Black Panther, WTF) is not even in the same galaxy as Other M or TLJ. The fact that you seem to think they are comparable means you still have a loooooooooooooong way to go to get out of the rabbit hole. Once again, I must strongly suggest dropping YouTube cold turkey for a whole month as an emergency cleanse.

I desperately don't want to believe that, but it makes the most sense. Like I said the issue is I got so deep into this stuff it's only like within the past half year I've begun to realize the extent to which these far right-wing politics go. At this point I've conceded that TLJ and that whole trilogy would have been contentious anyway and that just became catnip for anti-progressives.

To be fair I was more amused than anything that it seemed like Wanda's character arc in Phase 4 seemed to be getting called "woke" while at the same time being character assassination, however I can't imagine Metroid and the MCU have much in the way of fanbase overlap so I guess one woman's character assassination can come off as sexist while another's is woke. Other than both of them involving maternal instincts (not helped by the similar acronym) I suppose there's really no similarity though and I keep comparing apples to oranges.

And like I said in the other topic it feels like a lot of these people just decided to use TLJ in the first place as an excuse to vent out their frustrations with modern cinema and then the MCU, especially as of late, just provided a convenient target. That's another reason I stopped bringing up Captain Marvel in the other topic, since I get the feeling the people who were hating on it pre-release wouldn't have cared ordinarily anyway and again just used the film to project their political views while ironically accusing Brie Larson of hijacking the whole franchise with her politics...somehow. And it feels like even they moved on from the actual film quickly and only hate it in so far as them hating the character and actress so much in the first place.

I have to be the only person who has watched a considerable amount of those "anti-progressive" analysis channels who's utterly disgusted by them and keep overestimating their reach as a result. I couldn't get like one minute into the Critical Drinker's video response to the She-Hulk trailer because by this point I'm convinced that he's a classic "stay in the kitchen" misogynist except now that kitchen is their own franchises. And heck even THAT logic starts to fall apart when it comes to things like Terminator: Dark Fate (which is not a good movie at all, but it didn't deserve politically-motivated backlash one iota) and Birds of Prey.

ah yeah, you're just paying attention to the wrong people. stop watching alt-right or alt-right-adjacent content and just recognize that it's bullshit. outrage videos are bad for your mental health and, based on this topic, bad for your iq

Well actually it was James Rolfe getting slammed as a misogynist merely for making a video informing his fans he didn't want to see it. Helps in hindsight that Rolfe handled the whole thing like a pro.

Neither situation is sexist, both situations involve shitty dialog writing and poor understanding of characterization.

This was my favorite part of the topic.

Another thing that gets me is it's not like movies that "demonize" men and maleness are a new thing, see Doctor Strangelove, The Silence of the Lambs, Thelma & Louise, and Fargo for but a few examples. Makes it more clear labelling a movie like TLJ as "anti-male" is blatant politicization, not to mention it begs the question why any given work has to portray at least one character of every group positively or else it sucks. That goes for women too in any case, not to sound sexist myself.
