Republicans voted against a bill that would help stop price gouging at the pump. The president himself cant control prices. The GOP refused something that actually could. Dont let them fool you with all these I did that stickers. This is 100% on them.

A spokesperson for the department confirmed the Cook Inlet lease sale would not proceed due to insufficient industry interest.

The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management previously canceled lease sales in the area in 2007, 2008 and 2011, also citing lack of interest from industry at the time.

https://www.kbbi.org/local-news/2022-05-13/cook-inlet-lease-sale-258-canceled-doi-cites-lack-of-industry-interest

In press release on May 12, 2022, Sen. Murkowski stated, Citing a lack of industry interest is nothing more than fantasy from an administration that shuns U.S. energy production.

Both Sen. Murkowski and Sen. Sullivan believe that there was no way to gauge whether there was an interest, because these leases were not open to bidders. Most companies choose to keep their interests confidential.

You never really know until the actual lease is held what industries are interested, and which are not, said Cook Inletkeeper Advocacy Director, Liz Mering. She said that historically oil and gas development in Cook Inlet has posed many logistical considerations.

At $100 oil, there is a hell of a lot more interest in drilling. Prices were only $54 when this was up for sale in 2017 and a company bought it. State sales for the same acreage last year were highly sought after:

State Leases are a different story. Last June, the state of Alaska auctioned off 3.3 million acres of oil and gas leases in Cook Inlet resulting in eight successful bids from two different companies. For Lease Sale 258, it will be another five years before it can be reconsidered for potential lease.

*makes it clear your administration will do everything possible to kick the oil industry in the dick*
"Wow, why isn't there more interest in developing the leases that we intend to regulatorily kick you in the dick over?"

I'm well aware that the oil companies like to collect leases, and sit on them. But canceling them was still a stupid move by the administration. Low information idiots will read the headlines, and nothing else, and go away believing that gas prices would be lower if only Biden would let the companies drill more oil.

Also gas companies are making record profits and the price per barrel doesn't even come close to justifying the price.

Its such a fucking racket and the government is too pussy to do shit.

Supply and demand, gas is bottlenecked at the refinery, not the oil production.

I understand that it's making things challenging for some people but at the same time, I feel like it's really not a bad thing that gas prices are increasing. We need to disincentivize using gasoline in favor of renewables, and it should be costly to use dirty oil and gas.

This. US gas is cheap compared to other wealthy and industrialized nations

FYI, the US buys crude and refines it themselves to get gas. Many other wealthy nations don't have the space/industry to refine crude so they just buy the finished products. That's why there's such a huge price difference. It'd be like the guy who bought a prebuilt home wondering why his neighbor who bought the raw materials and built it himself paid less overall. In practice, the price of gas in the US should never approach anywhere close to the price those other countries are paying.
