At least in the broad/general aspects of physical and mental condition. They have to be physically fit and pass rigorous physical training and experience gravity many times than 99.9% of other humans, they have to be smart enough to contribute to either research or maintenance on the rocket/ space station. They have to do an hour of exercise a day in space to fight off muscle atrophy. It's hard work.
