We are conditioned from a young age to strive for a "desk job". Oddly this has led to a generation of people who work 8+ hours a day sitting at a desk and don't supplement the lack of activity with exercise.

There's 168 hours in a week. You can workout 1 hour a day four times a week and that's enough. Working out barely takes any time. The effects are immense just doing the bare minimum, People are just lazy.

30 mins a day is enough. Don't event have to do it 7 days a week. 3 to 4 times a week especially for a beginner and you'll see massive gains.

Being lazy is the cool thing to do.
Pointing out that treating your body like a trash can is not good for you is considered "toxic".
Fast food over cooking your own meals.
Working too many hours at a sedentary/low activity job.
A national infatuation with artificial sugar.
Working out/exercising is considered "bro culture".

Choose two or more.

Wow, that is incredible! 58 pounds in 25 weeks is a little more than 2/week, which should be the max, so be careful.

In most cases, weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise.

150 minutes of exercise a week is recommended, and you can calorie count. I understand there are exceptions such as medication which can interfere with weight.

Typically. Since I am able to run decent distances, I end up being about 50/50

Thank you! I'm not doing any weird diets or starving myself, just avoiding junk food, beer and sugary stuff. My biggest encouraging would be my gf I've met around that time

If you're even remotely active you can usually more or less outrun whatever terrible diet you have as a youth (like lots of crappy food, beer all the time, etc...) but when you get to your 30s to 40s, there are less things in your face to involve you in actively, and your metabolism starts to slow down.

Add in probably having a low activity job, commuting to work, no otherwise exercise (common when you like, have young kids and just don't have the time) etc... its easy to gain a lot of weight and let yourself go - which really helps illustrate how unhealthy your prior lifestyle actually was.

Its really weird because I was in my late twenties before I realized stuff about dieting and exercise. In 8th and 9th grade, I was pushing 225 or 230. Then I started smoking weed and by senior year, I was down to 180. I plateaued for a few years and then lost another twenty when I quit drinking and another twenty when I cut out sugar and limited my food intake.

To be fair, I probably went from 140 to 160 over the past couple of years, but Im easily back to about 145-150. Still scared to use the scale, but it will be soon.
