Her boyfriend isn't the one people are feeling sorry for. And you say "her boyfriend probably did a lot worse" so why are you blaming her? What did she actually do?

I'm responding mostly to the people that see this bit of shit talking and are trying to use to equivocate or equalize Russia and Ukraine or in any way elevate the magnitude of placing a phone call as the same level of seriousness as invading another country. There's tons of comments like that here and it's really gross.

So what did she do? Idk and idc. Her and her boyfriend aren't exactly sympathetic here. This Ukrainian soldier couldn't possibly do as much harm with his 1 minute video call as that Russian soldier did in his country and I'm not gonna whip out the crocodile tears for them.

You'd have to be a real psychopath to do something like this, btw.

Yeah I'm so tired of the ignorant centrism.

It's attractive and very appealing for people to say they're "above politics, above taking sides, above hate" etc. That sounds good. But whenever you see this in practice throughout history it helps to minimize wrongdoing by the oppressors and spotlight ways that the oppressed is not an angel.

This topic will probably gets hundreds of posts, but then make a topic about Russia's numerous war crimes and it will get a couple posts because these concerned centrists won't show up. That's how they roll.

What I'm saying is it wasn't fair to discriminate against Muslims just because of the actions of some. And I don't see it as fair that people are celebrating the actions of the video just because the person on the other end of the phone was Russian. It would be one thing if it was another soldier, but it was a civilian. There's no proof that this girlfriend supported the invasion in anyway. It could have been the soldier's mother and people would have cheered the same. Because "Fuck Russians." Doesn't matter if they support the invasion or not. It's all "Fuck them all."

I don't support the invasion at all and I applaud Ukraine for resisting. But I think this particular act is disgusting. If I didn't convey my message properly, then that's on me and I apologize, but I do not condone calling civilians to had nothing to do with anything and taunting them. If my sister's boyfriend who's military got called to war and was killed, I would find it absolutely disgusting if a soldier sent my sister a video taunting her. My sister had absolutely no say in the war. I'm sure there are psychopaths in the war, but like that one guy said, there are plenty of people in the war who didn't want to go and whose family didn't want them to go.

I mean, there's always gonna be assholes and evil people on both sides.

Taking delight in this or justifying it also makes you a bit of an asshole. You don't think she hasn't been in anguish about the war and just wanted her boyfriend to come home?

She probably has closure in a way that millions of other people impacted by this conflict don't get to have. If only all of those other Russian soldier's relatives received a phone call within the hour of them helping to plant sunflowers in Ukraine.

I think it is difficult for some people to acknowledge that two sides of a conflict can both be doing reprehensible things, even if we do accept that one side is more in the wrong than the other. This. They may not have had a choice to be there. They absolutely had a choice in committing the war crimes that have taken place during the course of this invasion. Take a look at the aftermath of what happened in Bucha and tell me about how sorry I should feel for the Russians sent there.

Does the Ukrainian soldier have the luxury of characterizing the invading Russian soldiers by their individual deeds? Is it wrong of him to paint all of the enemies invading his home with the same broad brush? Cause that seems like an awfully easy and naive thing to insist that he should do while you're posting on a dying video game message board from the safety of your own home.

This phone call doesn't exist in a vacuum. It's a minor interaction between members on opposite sides of a bloody conflict. I don't think it does anyone any good to remove the phone call from the context that it's taking place in and harangue the soldier because we're judging him from within the comfort of our homes.

So in that sense, you're correct. This is war, that soldier has been through shit. He's been through and hell and back. Compared to the women of his own country, that Russian soldier's girlfriend has it pretty easy.

Why would I judge him harshly? Cause he was insensitive to someone's feelings? If only the women of his country only had their feelings to worry about.

The dude who died got what was coming to him, but his family has nothing to do with that. Caller is an edgy loser.

Do people really see this as something good? Like good entertaining tiktok content?

Christ, I get that the soldier has a right to be as angry and vengeful as a person can be, but if you watched this video and enjoyed it...something is off about you. Maybe go play outside time.

I once got into an argument with somebody about those pictures of American soldiers pissing on the corpses of Iraqi soldiers and they were saying how it was despicable and all that.
