I remember going to my high school's library and finding out Mario barely beat out Crono in the 2003 contest.

I remember losing internet access for awhile and then finding out Weighted Companion Cube beat Tidus and I actually got on the Top 50 leaderboard for the first time.

My best contest result was 2013 where I actually did a fuckload of analysis from previous contests and nailed some predictions like Pikachu kicking ass and Charizard being a fraud, and I still came in tied for second in the Guru and was nowhere close to a prize. Oh well, I'll take it.

I'm doing great, honestly. I haven't really posted here much since the last contest, but I'm a home-owner, I'm a Something Awful moderator for the third time, and overall life is chill and relaxing with no real drama. My life is boring, but I'm certainly not complaining.

Sometimes boring lives are the most rewarding, when it comes to peace of mind. Nice to hear things are good!

I think the most shocking thing is that after twenty years I still have the mind to post here (even though I didn't really post here until 2003, but I did lurk in 2002).

I typically only post when I'm bored, any more, but I still find it a fun way to pass time. I'm a web/mobile app developer, so I spend all day on the computer, and it's nice to have a distraction like this when waiting for a build to finish.

I'm pretty sure GameFAQs contests were one of the few things to make me give a shit about midnight and then kept me up for the next hour to track trends to see if my favorite characters could create/maintain an upset.

I can't remember the last time I stayed up past midnight in the past few years.

I also love all the insane character rivalries that occurred thanks to these contests.

Where else on the fucking internet where you see one of the most intense and treasured rivalries be between Mario and fucking Crono?

Actually the craziest thing is that after twenty years I'm still excited to see another popularity contest happen on the fucking GameFAQs polls.

There's so much history to them at this point, and things change so much constantly that there's still an air of unpredictability to them. Like, who knew Zelda would go on such a tear in a contest? Or that after fifteen years we'd finally get closure on Cloud/Mario?

Well, that's what Smash is for.

All the upsets own, even the ones against the characters I like. All the rallies own, even the ones against the characters I like. Because there are upsets and rallies that benefited characters and games I liked too, so it all evens out.

Like, I never would've believed there'd be a day where fucking Vivi, who I feel is one of the best-written characters of all time, would be able to upset god damn Mario, but it fucking happened.

I also love all the weird shit that we'd root for as people who were invested in GameFAQs Contest Statistics. Like how everyone both celebrated Chester making it into a contest, both as an icon of a character developed by a fellow Board 8er, and also a character who would easily be the weakest entrant in the history of the contests

A lot of us are fucking weirdos, but god damn was it fun to be a weirdo here.

God knows I've bitched about this forum, very numerous times, for years and years, but here I am, twenty fucking years later, still excited about the thought of yet another popularity contest of an increasingly-niche web site.

Yeah, these contests have been amazing experiences as a whole, even the contests that weren't very good, because of the community we have.

God knows how much I disagree with this forum and the people here in so many aspects, yet I can still agree with everyone here that it's fun as hell to watch the contests unfold with all of you, as we're the only one who really enjoy just how crazy and fun these things can be.

I'll be honest, I'm sure we've disagreed, probably even vehemently, on several things, but I don't actually care to recall them. I'm willing to have fun chatting and/or debating with anybody, with few exceptions.

I remember my first appearance in a top 50, back in 2006.

You'd think it was something like Ganon vs Vincent that got me on the list, but you'd be wrong: one person in the top 50 had Prince of Persia > Kirby, and I got to be #50 for a day until Zero lost to Luigi.

I feel this sentiment. I don't think I've said anything on this board that's made me (m)any friends, or given people a more positive impression of me, but I still skim around here like I have for the last 20 years reading and replying to people just for the fun of the discussion. I don't particularly recall any particular spats with individuals or anything.
