Students will give teachers a hard time and teachers wish they were respected more. What is something teachers can do so that their classes aren't constantly disruptive and students have fun learning?

give respect and get respect

treat the kids like you would an adult, minus anything inappropriate, and usually they can tell and will reciprocate

Don't teachers have very little freedom in their lesson plans nowadays? Might be pulling that out of my ass.

Classes need to be engaging in ways that stimulate all of your senses. The disruptive ones ain't gonna fly on reading tablets and listening quietly.

Tag for when I get home but I've been teaching for 10+ years and I kinda feel if any of us feel we are at that level, we are doing a disservice to the kids.

Like we should strive for that level but never attain it if that makes sense.

the fact that you have to call teachers by mr/mrs last name, sir/ma'am in the US still baffles me.

Personally I show up and do my job professionally, so the kids know I respect them and the school.

I also simply interact with them the way I interact with anyone. I treat them the same as adults. I think that shows them I value them as people and don't look at them as just "kids."

Another thing I do is that I show up to all of their events. It doesn't matter the sport or the extracurricular I will be there. And this goes for kids even when their past my grade. I rarely see other teachers at things. I know the kids notice me being their and taking an interest in them, and I know they notice I am one of the few there.

i'm just saying that these conventions(and probably many more like it) all add up to what might be a bad overall work/school environment that leaves teachers feeling like they can't command respect and leave.

teachers still leave over here but definitely not because of the kids.

That's probably the least worrisome part of teaching in the US though.

The only "negative" side to that is that the kids default to calling you that after they are no longer your students. Like when they are out of high school and they come back to visit or see you out in public and they go back to the Mr/Ms/Mrs nomenclature.
