No. Its just a new profession. They get paid by advertisers and those with a big following have a lot of influence in that regard. I dont know why people whine about this lol. Its just a term to set them apart from your typical movie star or musician celebrity.

My nephew showed me a video of this YouTuber called Mr. Beast that hes obsessed with. While he does gets crazy and crazy amount of views when I think of the term influencer I picture a activist/philanthropist whose trying to make the world a better place.

"is cringe" is incredibly cringey, but i don't know if i'd say it's the worst. influencer is probably up there, too, but there has to be worse out there.
