This is why I stopped participating years ago. If not Link, then maybe Cloud or whatever Reddits troll character happens to be. Plus the flame wars that happen because every board gets flooded with butt hurt fanboys whining why did Mario lose to Solid Snake? Waaaaaaaaah ;_;

Should have ended after that, honestly. Not only did it pretty much peak there, but it also underlined that a large portion of the userbase was already starting to see the whole thing as a joke.

When Reddit or 4chan or whoever else just spam the contest to push joke candidates through, it kind of renders the entire thing pointless. Now there's fewer users on the site than ever and apathy is worse than it's ever been. Even minor sites could manipulate the polls at this point.

And even if no one cares enough to interfere because GameFAQs as a whole is kind of a joke at this point (if anyone out there even remembers the site exists anymore), there's still the problem that other people have already pointed out, which is that the winner is just going to be Link or Cloud anyway. Probably Link, because I feel like a lot of people have stopped caring about FFVII as much as they used to (especially in the wake of the remake)

Never really been about the final result for me, I just enjoy making brackets and seeing how many matches I can get right. GameFaqs always fascinated me some of the results. Mario and Crono being so close together in strength for so many years made no sense, but I loved it. So many found memories. Even if it's just one more time, I want to enjoy another one of these contests.
