Thunder element gives stunning effects, or else when there's only 3 elements it tends to be the stronger of them in terms of base power (and thus raw power hypothetically).

Skyrim, but not to your benefit - while the player character's offensive magic ability is woefully underpowered (and the increased casting cost of shock spells over fire and frost rarely justifies the benefits), random enemy NPCs are demigods of death when wielding those same Destruction spells. It's still debatable over whether or not an enemy mage is deadlier with Ice Storm or Chain Lightning, but the latter has the advantage of instantaneous contact, as well as rapidly draining your magicka.

You'd be right for PVE, but not for PVP. It might seem okay in public duels where you can blanket a region with lightning traps or charged bolts, but anyone who knows what they're doing will slap on some lightning absorption and full resistance and just casually walk through your spells.

Best incantations sure, but incantations are inferior in PVP since the casting time allows anyone to easily dodge. It can be ok in PVE but still worse than magic or int builds.

I would argue that magic isn't an element in itself, especially as some magic spells do have elements (fire and frost sorceries).
That's my opinion on it, which I know Joy everyone would agree.

Well that's fair. I guess 'elemental' spells in elden ring would be fire, lightning, frost (also a status but I guess it counts), earth (rock sling and gravity magic probably fits here), and water (bubble spells maybe?)

I'd say probably fire for PVP would be best. Catch flame is probably the quickest incantation, with such generous i-frames on dodging speed is typically the most important thing in a fight. There's also frenzy flame spells which can stun lock you into a quick death, and fire spell buffs like flame grant me strength and black flame's protection which are very useful.

For PVE I'd probably say earth, it's low fp cost and high stagger damage is really useful. If it's an enemy that can't be staggered, frost and lightning can come in handy.
