Speaking as someone who has recently gotten back to the app scene, its pretty bad from a male point of view. I know my area isn't massive, we only have 400k people in the city I'm in, but even still.

I can't speak for women, but from what I've experienced it goes down like this:

1- Limited number of matches per day, of those many are copy accounts

2 - I have to pay to see who matched with me, pay to speak to some of them, and pay to get more matches meanwhile many sites allow women to speak for free.

3 - 9 chances out of 10 I'll get to the point where I'll arrange either a coffee date or a simple walk and the match won't show up. I've had that happen a couple times. One of them kept talking about how she didn't like meeting up with people that she didn't know (this was after 2 weeks), and agreed to a coffee date, didn't show up and then proceeded to message my roommate if he wanted to go over to her place to have some fun. He was dating someone and forgot to turn off his account (his gf was fine with it, as she knew he wouldn't cheat on her).

4 - Of the ones that would show up, I've met only crazy women (outside the one that I'm trying to have a relationship with now). One threatened to make me "disappear" if I cheated on her, and wanted me to get her pregnant all on the same date (our 3rd and final date). Another was a compulsive liar, had a drinking problem and was on the run from something (she had multiple ids, which I only found out after she had a full on alcohol induced seizure on my living room floor).

It's a depressing place. OkCupid is even worse. My roommates gf and I did an experiment, and despite her having a 92 percent match rating, she could see my profile, but I wasn't able to see hers. That's how fucked up the scene is at least for me.

And I get it, they need to make money somehow, but there has to be better ways. I'd be fine with paying for an account to speak to people if it meant I could at least look at their profile to see if we have things in common.

Another thing about dating Apps is theyre designed to make money, and they typically play into a mans insecurity. The first few days youll see a bunch of matches but after that youll get messages saying boost your profile so more people see you!making you think the lack of matches are due to not being seen enoughbut its the app making your profile less seen so you pay to be seen more.

I have these same issues and it's a recent phenomenon I believe due to the market being so hyper saturated, especially so because of the pandemic.

In early online dating, my matches used to be 2 to 3x as much and I had a fair amount of success in turning them into dates. I swear now adays I get hardly shit from matches and the responsiveness is shit.

Jeez that's tough I guess I've been lucky I had pretty good luck on tinder, 2 girfriends and a few hook ups. Just last month I had a couple dozen matches, I'll admit I'm 6'4 and decent looking though. My pictures are all 7 years old I'm surprised I'm still getting matches.

I've seen a few Youube videos like this, women pretending to be men thinking they know what other women want, it'll be easy etc, then getting a surprise.

I'm surprised dating apps have managed to cling on to so many users as long as they have. Both with the majority of users being dudes and the majority of those not having any luck, but also women who have it considerably easier also seem to hate using them. Surely their popularity will crash and burn at some point?

Dating apps are tough for guys because the ratio of women to men is like 1:10, I'm exaggerating but it's like really scewed. Unfortunately as someone showed earlier guys also aren't particularly picky either so basically women have it easier because they're in smaller number and you'd have to look like a foot to get rejected.

Dating apps are garb. I managed to get lucky in late 2014, otherwise I would probably still have an aimless life as far as family life goes.

The least we can do is empathize with the person instead of telling them they are doing something wrong.

A good chunk of the problems in the world persist through privileged people being unable to do that. "Bootstraps" and all that.

The secret is to NOT care about Tinder that much. I barely ever use it, I think I have like 40 matches, it always tells me "you got a new match!" and I don't even care or open the app to look. It doesn't effect my self-esteem in the least.

I been watching Aba and Preach every morning I wake up and there's a new video for like a year or so. I think I got in right as they were blowing up and getting recommended more. I don't agree with them 100% on things, but they're always at least circling the place I feel comfortable with. Plus, I understand humor means you sacrifice humbleness for the joke at times. lololol this is great. A rule of thumb I have is that if you notice a decent percentage of people have a problem (Something that's far beyond "you're the only one I know with X problem"), there's some societal effect that makes it a lot harder for them to do on their own.

I'm not trying to discredit personal responsibility, but there's some a line between something people with common knowledge should be able to accomplish versus having to sit down, diagnose the situation and engineer a solution with consultation for outside perspectives, that's a lot to expect the general populace to do without giving up.

I need to pick up the book because I thought this 20 minute piece was quite solid.

It was a decent read. Covers a few topics. Dating as a man, working as a man, and having friend groups as a man. And how they differ from her experience as a woman.

The short version is life was mostly harder as a man.

You could consider the caveat that, as a lesbian woman masquerading as a man with makeup, she probably came across as a bit of an effeminate, relatively small man.

Yeah I briefly dabbled in online dating but it just seemed hopeless. On the other hand my cousin and his wife met each other online and have an awesome family together. Maybe I should ask them which app they used.

Have there been any studies on empathy w/r/t who it is given to? I feel like men are keener to latch onto even perceived kindness/empathy (often to a fault) like a drowning man to a life preserver. Anecdotally it feels like both men and women are more likely to extend empathy toward women than toward men, but then I may be biased. All I found were pop studies about women having more empathy in general, which isn't really what I'm looking for.

Its not. Imagine youre hungry and theres hundreds of loaves of bread to choose from, some of them may be moldy, but you have a huge amount of options. Cinnamon flavor, wheat, rye, really any kind you could want.
