C/D: Star Wars is a worn-out, old franchise.

C. Of the Star Wars media I have not engaged with, I'm pretty much only interested in playing some of the games from before Disney bought it.

Disney killed it by making it basically marvel with their yearly releases

Well yeah. Nobody even bothered to turn up for a Han Solo movie, one of the most popular characters of all time.

I think there could be countless NEW stories with NEW characters in NEW places if they really tried.

It will be as good as the people and creativity behind it.

I'd say Disney killed it by making a sequel series and taking the safest, most milquetoast, creatively bankrupt approach they possibly could.

That said despite the fact we're in a shitty boring era of the brand it's still not as bad as it could be, and the weird Jedi Viking shit they're doing might turn out to be cool.

It's not worn out, it's dead. Episode 8 killed it. Some might argue Episode 7. It depends on if you're Team Han or Team Luke.

There's more to the failure of Solo than fan disinterest/oversaturation.

Notably, the mishandling of the entire project and basically having to start over. Combine that with it being so close to the release of The Last Jedi, the divided reception to TLJ, the general "Nobody really asked for this...", people hating/skeptical over the actor choice and and Solo was destined to fail.

Except it was ran with 0 competence up top, Marvel had a pretty specific plan for Phase 1 and Feige made sure no movie broke too far from that, which made for an epic finale.

Star Wars went the complete opposite direction, they had 0 story plan for even the main sequel trilogy of movies. I will never understand how Disney could make such a critical error like that when Marvel was being run so well in the lot next door

Iunno I remember back before the buyout/canon reset back in the late 00s and early 10s where the franchise was kinda just literally nothing

Im not really a big Star Wars fan, but theyve released 11 movies, 3 recent television seasons, and a few animated shows in 45 years.

The MCU has had 28 movies and 5 television seasons in 14 years, but its still massively popular.

The problem is that the Star Wars movies have been more letdowns than critically acclaimed. If they could release a story that people enjoy at large, then it will change perceptions.

There's been good to great Star Wars material available at any given time for several decades. You just have to look beyond the movies. There's always a great game, novel, comic, cartoon, live action series,... at any given time.

Nah, the setting of Star Wars continues to be great and there's loads of good stuff they can do with it. They just don't though.

Dragon Ball is an old franchise that still has interesting stuff being done with it. So is Mario.

Star Wars was just going in a much better direction in the 2000s than it is today.
