I guess my main criticism is that only two of the playable characters matter at all, but I love Yuri's dark and troubled journey, as well as his relationships with Alice and Albert Simon.

A weird and ever-exciting mix of Lovecraft and magical history. It gets quite dark at times, and otherwise clich RPG plot points get remixed with interesting political and religious criticisms and a conflicted protagonist is boosted thanks to a particularly horrific powerset. Also, Koudelka returning is the best.

Didn't finish SH due to a corrupted save file, but I loved what I saw. Need to get back to this one, especially considering that I beat Koudelka a few months ago.

Dragon Quest VI - 5

Dragon Quest's general inability to keep up with the times regarding dialogue really starts biting it. IV and V had clever ideas about how to structure the game to make you care more about the cast even if they virtually never talk. For VI they manage some decent ideas about world-building but here it doesn't really tie into the characters effectively in the same way as IV and V's gimmicks, the party members have virtually no dialogue after joining, and any main plot there is so sparse after the first third or so as to become almost non-existent. The individual quests are reasonably good but the lack of much tying them together and no characters really worth caring about effectively dooms basically the entire thing. The setting allows for some neat NPC connections though.
