I respect women. One thing I respect about them is their ability to recognize a problem concerning their gender and do something about it.

Men don't seem to do this.

The recent body-shaming topic got me thinking about this. Women almost universally agree that body-shaming them for weight, "imperfect" vaginas, and other things are wrong and support each other. "Health At Every Size", "All Vaginas Are Beautiful", other hashtags, etc.

Men don't seem to do this. They are much more divided. Some say body-shaming for men is wrong, others say it's no big deal, others say you're dumb for caring, etc.

Is this because men tend to be more competitive while women are more communal?

It seems the closest men came to organizing something ended up turning into the incel movement and we all know how that turned out.

Thoughts?

Men have organized, its called the US government.

It plays a role for sure, but do remember that people react different from online than real life. You do have pricks in real life that will body shame, but that kind of behavior tends to be looked down upon. Online, however, it's anything goes because of the anonymity aspect of it. You can type mostly whatever you want and barely face much consequences for it.

Many Women actually hate each other.
It really becomes a case of keeping your enemies close.

That was the stereotype before, but it seems the internet changed things.

Because we dont have periods that sync up as we become more and more aligned as a group.

it's because the things that hurt both men and women benefit a subset of men.

those men have power.

typically movements are not successful without the support of some of those in power. most successful women's movements gained support from some of the women who have power, because those women are in power despite sexism, not because of it.

Dunno but it grinds my gears when some defender of women doesn't care about the same stuff being done to men. Like fuck all the way off lol.

Women aren't as competitive as men are. There's more of a culture of trying to uplift each other, especially these days. Men like to rip on each other more and tear each other down when they both want the same thing. Compare when two men pursue the same woman vs two women trying to pursue the same man.

Men don't organize like that because they haven't been mistreated on the basis of their sex. There's no need to.

I didn't mean men were unaffected by gender roles, just that they're the ones who benefit most from them, which is why you don't see the sort of organization that TC is talking about. Men typically organize for other reasons.

Men are much less oppressed relative to other groups. That is: more men benefit from the way that things are and are thus unwilling to change it, even though patriarchy isnt good for men either.

Because men have toxic masculinity blasted to their brains 24/7. Maybe the upcoming generation will be different, but its doubtful since in 2024 the U.S. will be under full blown authoritarionism and it will constantly promote hyper masculinity. But that just means more men will kill themselves since they don't fit in, but oh well. Thats the ideal for the alt-right too.

What are you talking about? Girls can be every bit as mean about shaming others for their looks. Weight, ears, clothes, zits, boobs, glasses, whatever.

Some people are more likely to be kinder and tell mean people to shut their traps. It's nothing to do with gender. It's to do with thoughtfulness and empathy.

And I think almost everyone has said something insulting to someone they couldn't stand or about a stranger.

Terms like catty, bitch, and mean girl didn't come about because we're all sugar, spice and everything nice.

A lot of men would say they just don't give a shit about things of that nature. Maybe because they don't have to, maybe due to natural differences between the way men and women think. Probably a bit of both.
