11110111011 04/21/22 6:18:41 AM #4:	Metric is completely arbitrary. It was supposed to be based on the distance from the north pole to the equator, but they ended up making the wrong calculation. Ironically enough, the United States came in and standardized the metric system and sent a set of weights and measures to each country that was using them. Without these standards, the system really doesn't exist. Standard measurements are usually based upon general every-day sizes.
