The system does need reform and not EVERY cop is bad but I would say more than half are corrupt. Because the system itself is broken

I beleive most cops are good, bu something needs to be done about the corrupt ones to held them accountable.

I'm impressed by how mature CE's response to this has been.

Acab is overselling it but there is some serious problems right now that are coming to light with police culture and accountability that mean it is an incredibly pervasive issue nonetheless.

I don't blame some people for feeling that it's true particularly if they're a minority because they tend to see the worst of it.
Honestly, I can even see how the cops would also see a lot of the worst sides of people doing their job and have a high chance of getting jaded themselves, which isn't an excuse but is still a part of human nature I have to acknowledge.

The system is so broken, that any 'good' cop is bullied out by the rest of them. There literally cannot be good cops in a system that punishes one for doing the right thing, and rewards them for indulging in corruption.

This is one thing I've heard about that's a perfect example of the systemic issues

The system is broken, and needs to be reworked from the ground up. I think there's some value in a police force, mainly for dealing with murderers and other violent criminals. Accountability is probably the most important thing that needs to be worked into the system.

The systems in place to hold people accountable are pretty fucked, which can allow corruption to breed. I see this as more of a local governance thing than just a police thing though. You can't really have mass police corruption without local officials also being corrupt and overlooking it. As with everything, it's a case by case thing. Different states, different counties, different towns will all breed different cops.

I understand the sentiment behind statements like these but its like shouldnt all these good cops be the ones holding the bad ones accountable? Isnt that their job? Every single good cop knows exactly who the bad ones are. They arent ignorant of how their coworkers operate. And they do nothing.

So yeah, acab. The entire concept of policing in its current form is a mechanism to enforce the property rights of the extremely wealthy and to coerce the poor into wage work.

Not all cops are bad. But as the saying goes the apple doesnt fall too far from the tree.
