Rudeness toward customer service workers is something I cannot stand. Unless the worker is being rude -- and I could probably count on one hand the number of times I've witnessed a worker behaving that way -- there is no excuse for it at all. If I ever see someone treating a worker that way, I mentally tag them as a shitty person.

Agreed. I had to deal with a rude customer / food service employee the other week and while part of me didn't want to talk to management, he's was some smug, arrogant white guy who treated me and my SO poorly, probably because we are a interracial couple and he apparently can't stand it, so he stood there looking at us for awhile, doing absolutely nothing despite his position being to take people's orders, knowingly, while we were waiting for service and then acted like a sarcastic jackass while taking care of my order. I didn't take the order and talked to a manager because staff shouldn't treat customers, especially ones who are kind and respectful to them, that way. He's there to work and provide a service and the sooner he learns that and stays out of trouble the better.

i definitely judge people who are rude to customer service / retail workers. i stocked shelves in a grocery store for like eight years and the way some people act is just astonishing. yes, yell at me because the warehouse was out of your favorite salad dressing and hasn't shipped it to us for the last five orders because they're out too. i'm sorry your party will be ruined, but my only responsibility is to put it on the shelf if it's in the back.

Bad customer behavior is often sited as the main reason people leave the service industry. You know the pay sucks when you get in the business, but the unnecessary and wrathful abuse drives the workers off.

I didn't curse or yell.

I asked with annoyance in my voice why it took so long to serve one vehicle. The manager said that they were understaffed and that she didn't have any control over the scheduling. That pacified me for a moment and I apologized. Then they said my food would be another five minutes and I asked for my money back. I was late getting clocked into work and the only food I was able to get was an Oscar Meyer sandwich from out of the fridge.

I'm sorry. There's no excuse for it to take 20 minutes to get food when I'm the second car in line. The fact that there was only one car ahead of me is why I felt bold enough to get in line when I only had 25 minutes until work began. (The audacity, I know.) Fast food is designed for people with half-hour lunch breaks, for parents on their way to pick up their children, for people who sacrifice food quality for expedience. It's there in the title. It's supposed to be fast.
